New speakers for my vert?

Hi All,

Does anyone know of any good sites to get new speakers for my vert? Ideally, I would like to get something close to a sub-woofer for the rear but fiting in the ORIGINAL speaker holders. And then I would like to get some new one's for the front doors too. Also, any ideas on a new radio? Do I even need one? Equalizer? I'd like to have a nice sound with some tough base but nothing so outraageous that I have to lug some big ass speakers in the back seat. I am all GO if ya catch my drift and don't want to add a lot of weight. Thanks!

p.s. Any stereo experts out there know if I should get any heavier wiring or an amp while I am at it? I don't know how any of this stuff works but would like to learn. Any good links to learn about "doing-it-myself?" Thanks in advance stangers!! :banana:

Look into CDT Audio , Focal , Dynaudio , and Image Dynamics for Front components high end speakers only buy QUALITY FIRST.

For rear speakers get a pair of Eclipse 5x7's.

Amps look into Diamond Audio , JL Audio , MTX. For the price you cant beat most of those for a simple system.

Subwoofers. Image Dynamics , Adire Audio Brahma.

headunit get a eclipse or alpine.

Some good sugesstions right there. I second alpine head units, I love them! For subs I would also suggest JL audio subs, though Image Dynamics dont need as big as a box as the jl's, which is a big plus in verts.

I would get a high power alpine head unit (60x4 peak, i think 27 rms) which will power speakers loud enough for most people.

Again tell us what your looking for in the system, (sound quality, super loud bass, ect) and what kind of music you listen to mostly and we can help you out more.

I listen to rock mainly but I like everything including Jazz some blues, even classical on occasion b/c it is relaxing after a stressfull day, lol. Most music I like has a good bass though.

I am taking some time to look at all of your suggestions thanks for the great replies! You guys rock! :nice:

Good question. I normally don't look at it from that perspective. I mean, I have to do the research first, get an idea of what things cost and then decide. I would prob take it in steps. Like, I would get the speakers first and then if I wasn't satisfied, buy a new radio, then decide if I need an amp or equalizer. I am not hard to please when it comes to tunes but more particular about go-fast stuff.

But to kinda answer your question, after doing some of the reseach tonight on the links y'all gave me, I am prob not a sub-woofer guy...more like a 3-way speaker guy if you know what I mean..

We have a sound and shine forum, and that is the place for this post. But since you did already, I guess I will put my $.02 in....

But you will get tons of opinions from people here as to which speakers to put in the car. I have my preference, as do others.

But here is the absolute basic necessities which cannot be debated.

1. DO NOT run your speakers off of your factory receiver, or even a new receiver. You will only get crappy quality sound no matter what receiver you buy, no matter what the advertisments. They have to fit an amplifier into a TINY package, and that produces a lot of heat, and they scrimp wherever they can. And that even goes for the output signal out of a factory deck. Not worth it.

2. Ditch the factory receiver and buy a receiver that has at least 2 RCA signal output pairs. That way you can at least run 1 amp for highs/mids and 1 for a sub. Having a seperate output for the sub is preferred.

3. Run your new speakers off of an external amp. That amp was designed specifically for running speakers and will be up to the task. It will keep the signal clean and also amplifies the sound volume and quality.

4. Read the sound and shine forums, and understand how to install a receiver, amplifier and speakers on our cars. Then decide which speakers/amp/receiver you want to buy.

First figure out which speakers you want, and there RMS wattage rating. You should get ones that are at least 50-100W RMS each. That way you can run a decent amount of current w/o blowing them. Then take the total RMS rating of all 4 speakers and add 20%, and that is your absolute minimum RMS rating for your new ampilfer. Now choose your amp. Your receiver choice will depend on look, and features. I couldn't live without mine which has mp3/DVD decoders built in, but that is a preference.


Lastly, dont buy from crutchfield or any retail store. Also don't buy referb'ed stuff of ebay. You don't have a factory warranty w/ refurb'ed stuff usually. On Ebay you can find speakers for literally 50% off retail prices shipped to your door. Same with amps and receivers.

Thanks man! This is more info than I could find on a couple of sites I was looking at. You sound like you have been around the block with this stuff.

i've got a vert with the mach 460 speakers, if you want those. I can pull them out on a rainy day or something. They have seperate amps for the woofers and tweeters. only thing is i don't know if you'd have the wiring already.

Well the reason I asked on price is that A good sub will go for 400 a peice, a good amp is 500-1000 for the mono amp, and 500 or so for a multi chanel, a good head unit is around 500 or more if you want dvd too. And speakers can be between 150-500 dollars a pair.

Not a problem. I learned the hard way, and I don't want you to do the same.

But John is right about Diamond Audio, there stuff is top of the line. I cannot think of any superior brand.

If you can't afford their products, there are others out there that will suffice.

Thanks. I think I am going to get new though. One thing I don't like about my speakers now is that they are 11 years old. I am going to start with a new reciever like one person mentioned here and new 3-way speakers and see how I like that. Again, great suggestions! :cheers:

Even though I used Diamond Audio components and amps in the past. THERE are alot of superior brands. BUT for the price/quality I cannot name a superior brand. Especially the amps. Ill be using 2 600x2 Amps from them in my future setup. They are only $250 shipped each on EBAY!!!!!!!!!! muahhaha I love these amps.. 1200 watts (300x4 @ 2ohms) just to my 2 sets of components(2 on each side) which will be Image dynamic's or CDT Audio's..

Anyway Ill be deaf soon but who cares :)
