new stang owner, suggestions?

Hi everyone. I just bought a 2004 Mustang GT last week. It is still bone stock, I know I want to mod it, but i'm not sure what to do first. Any suggestions? How can I get the best performance for the least cost?

Also, here are some pics I took. The last two are blurry, I know, I took them at night without a tripod. I hope to redo them soon, maybe when i can catch a sunset or sunrise in the back.

I did CAI for my first mod. I'd suggest not doing that.

I'd say exhaust (just cat-back, or cat-back and midpipe) should be a good start. Lotta people take their GT's to the exhaust shop with the dealer sticker still in the window . Definately the most popular mod

The 1st thing I did to both my stangs was go to a muffler shop and get a
couple of mufflers welded in w/chrome tips. I highly sugest Magnaflows not
Flowmasters. For tips I have 3.5 inch chrome slash cut, looks good, sounds good,
runs good.

yepp magnaflow sounds great....the afternoon i got my stang i went and bought a magnapacks catback for it....its loud ,but sounds good...will grab alot of attention

lower it first.

you're not going to be able to get a lot of performance out of the 2V motor w/o spending major bucks. the only mods worth doing before getting a supercharger or nitrous are catback exhaust, midpipe (hpipe or xpipe), long tube headers, cams, gears (4.10s) or a shifter.

Other than those mods, to crack 300hp, you're going to need a blower or nitrous. even with full exhaust, cams and heads, our cars wont break 300rwhp

hahahaha i did the exact same thing and i would also suggest not doing this CAI should be ur last mod lol. but i did get a 75mm accufab throttle body and plenum though with that CAI

Doesn't add to performance but definitely lower it as soon as possible. Our cars look weird till then.

If it is a manual, then I would buy a shifter first. It will make driving it that much more enjoyable. I just got my GT about 2 months ago and first thing I did was install a MGW shifter. It is awesome!

Hi! I'm jumpin on the "don't do cai" bandwagon! Get an exhaust, MGW shifter, springs (haha, I haven't gotten them yet, but I'm telling you to). I was pretty happy with the 75 mm tb/plenum and sct tune, as well. Oh, another thing I don't have yet (but will in a few weeks)... gears!
And congratulations on the new car.

I put full exhaust on my car and it drives totally different. (probably me flooring it to listen to the rumble). A shifter is an easy mod to do, like everyone else mentioned.

+1 on the MGW shifter. That and switching the tranny fluid to Synth will make driving much more enjoyable (not to mention reducing the annoying 2-3 clash)

Pay attention peeps, his sig says the MGW is in the mail.

I'd do exhaust next, cat-back and mid-pipe. Then maybe start working on the suspension. Don't buy springs until you can either get new shocks, or know you can soon after. Also, something about lowered stangs with stock wheels, to me it looks a little strange. Depends on how far you lower it, but unless your rear wheels are flush or close to flush with the fenderwell, lowered stangs look like the older Hyundai Tibby's.

Anyways, I bet you'd appreciate the change in sound after exhaust more than you'd appreciate the change in appearance after springs.

You're right, i didn't have that in my sig yesterday, because i just ordered the MGW last night. Hopefully i'll enjoy it, but i'm sure i will, because i hate missing 3rd. Thanks for the input, i'll agree with most of you, i think exhaust is next. Is there somewhere where i can hear sound clips of different exhaust setups?
