New to Stangnet, Ft Lewis WA

For starters, Hello to all the Mustang enthusiasts out there. My name is Brian and I am Active Duty Military. I am from Ohio and currently stationed in Washington. I have been on 2 overseas deployments to Iraq, neither good nor bad. When returning from my last deployment I decided I wanted to buy a Mustang to play with. I purchased it from a guy in Michigan and here is the following mods he already accomplished before selling.... Ford E303 cam, bored .30, ported and polished heads, X-pipe with flows, rebuilt original transmission and engine with approx 7500 miles, 3.73 rear end, B&M shift kit, no smog kit/ac/heat, and 75 shot NOS. Since I have had it I have done only the following.... new 245/45/15 rubber, new performance shocks and struts, gel cell battery, MSD, some cosmetics, and currently in progress of rewiring the NOS because the original owner bypassed a specific harness and I would rather it be done right. My current very near future goals for upgrades are.... re-wiring of course (still trying to find someone with knowledge on installation to give me a hand), B&M Holeshot (not sure which one has proven more successful with others with the same current mods, 2500/3000??) and a K&N cold air intake. Winter goals are to upgrade my MAF, throttle body and some engine compartment show modifications. If I can budget myself good enough I'd also like to upgrade the upper intake, plenum, etc....

Any suggestions from anyone that has the same set up that has proven to work the best with little to no complications?

I plan to keep this car as much as possible street but I really love the track. Unfortunately, naturally aspirated, this car only ran 15.003 @ 93 MPH with a 60 ft time of 2.27s last week as it sits

Thanks,
Brian

Welcome. Hope you will be around for a while. Please race with the Ford Drag Team next Friday (10th) at Pacific Raceway.

I assume your times are without the NOS. Those heads must not be ported very aggressively, if at all. The heads are the key to making significant power gains. You already have the right gears. Do your AOD mods allow you to hold the gear until 5300 rpm?

Of course those times were without NOS. I was already shy about posting those horrible times and definitely wouldn't have if it was with NOS. Actually, I really need some assistance in rewiring my NOS kit. It was originally wired by the first owner and was unhooked (wiring) when the engine was redone. All the plumbing is still in place.

I have no idea if or how much the heads are ported. That is just what he advertised. But without the torque converter, I have no bottom end power. I have relatively good top end though. I am going to be putting a B&M Holeshot 2500 in as my stall. But I really want to get that NOS hooked up ASAP! That will defiantly get me off the line and would put me around 14 1/4 mile.

Speaking of... I was going to go to Pacific next Saturday but our car show is Saturday at south hill mall. so Friday would be a lot better for me. Send me some info on this racing team your speaking of. I would really be interested in joining, keep in mind that I am still a rookie at the strip. And I wouldn't feel right if I was running a 15 flat on a race team unless everyone else or others were in a similar spot. Ya know?...

So far, my mods seam to be holding up really well. I have a 5800 MSD chip in right now and I rev all the way up to it without any problems. Thinking of taking them into the 6k range but not sure how safe that is for this engine... Whats your opinion?

Welcome, some of us meet at the Forza coffee shop located at the North end of the McCord runway on Steele street in a new shopping strip. 1:00 PM Saturdays.
Again Welcome.:flag:

Welcome, on that b&m converter unless its given to you don`t bother with it. 6k rpm is over rev imho and if the AOD is stock it will not last long over 5500 rpm converter will not last nor will the snap ring on the one way clutch.
Come on out to pacific raceway on the 10th and run for the ford drag team.

im looking at the mph and i think thats pretty close to stock speed(not sure on being an auto) im not sure how much if any power your getting out of the e cam. if you budget right you can get an upper and lower intake manifolds and full exhaust and should be able to run in the 100-102 mph range w/o the nos for about 1500(i think i paid 1000 for mine but i have cats in the x-pipe) if you are a DIYer

mine is a manual and i found that with my mods launching at 12-1500 is best for me on street tires if the track is bad i get a little wheel spin about 2500rpms but its still 2.1 or 2.2 60'. but i also only have the stock cam so i have no high rpm power but lots of low end. when i put on the upper and lower manifolds it really woke the car up. btw i was stationed at ft lewis for 3 years. personally i would put the manifolds on then would think about the TQ converter

OK... What would be a decent upper intake for that and wouldnt I have to change out the throttle body and plenum if i get a bigger better intake? Forgive me if these are dumb questions, I'm not a mechanic but I'm learning very fast with this car.... hahaha

off the top of my head i cant think of any good or bad just upper manifolds that bolt directly with the stock lower. and i do not have any experience with nos so i dont know if the stock TB would be ok or not. i know NA a 65mm is good enough for about 400bhp and good drive ability. the most important thing is everything need to match. if you put a 400$ race cam in a stock motor youll probly make less hp then stock untill the rest of the parts catch up.

Welcome aboard! Only thing I can see being the problem with your low end grunt is that the e303 cam will allow you to make more power up top. I would recommend pulling the heads and intake. Get the heads ported. The E7TE's will flow very well with a good port and 5 angle grind. Find a GT 40 intake, they are getting cheaper. I would double check to make sure that your gears are in fact 3.73's. With those gears, a 5.0 should pull out of the hole pretty hard. The stock gears that came in the auto's were 2.73's. Hmmm... I'm sure I can think of more crap.

yeah, the engine has its original heads but they were polished with the rebuild. And there are 3.73 gears in there now... I just spoke to the original owner and he said that its laggin out the hole cause of the cam. He also informed me that the converter would be a really smart move for the car, as well as the intake, and when the transmission was rebuilt it had kevlar bands installed and a heavier OD to handle a new converter. Next time I get another Stang, it'll either be one that hasn't had anything done to it yet, already completely done or brand new... Trying to figure out what the person before you has done exactly is a pain in the ***
