Yeah thats in there with the stock times for an aod, my 89 gt aod stock 14.98@94 Im not saying dont buy a converter just get a good one.
Most the cheaper ones are not good for above 5500 rpm

Yes the aod can be a problem, but when it has been upgraded with the newer
4r70w parts they work very well and last longer and a shift kit will take care of the soft shift and more, i detuned mine for it was hitting to hard. The 1st gear in an aod is 2.40 the 4r70w 1st is 2.84 and I can tell you it makes a big difference in your 60' and 1320 times.
Like wanna_ be_ gt said the heads need some work, and scooby5.0 is right on with the 65mm tb and intake.

Thanks all, your input helps me better understand my direction on upgrades. I'm not sure if it was upgraded to 4r70w parts but the bands were changed out and kevlar was put in their place. Also, the OD was upgraded for better results. If this sounds like a 4r70w upgrade, then thats what he did. There was also a B&M shift kit installed. And sometimes it does hit second really hard. Depends on how you shift it. The only reason I was looking at the B&M Holeshot is cause other people that bought them said they were good. But I'll look into a different brand. And I would say that a 2500 would be plenty for that car at this point. Am I correct in that assumption? Also, while looking at different versions of the B&M, I noticed that there are two types; lock-up and unlocking converters (???). What is the difference between the two and which one would be better for a street/drag car?

Well the aod comes with lockup (3rd & od only) and that is good for the street. For the track the non lock would be good but it is giving up some rpm due to minor slippage. If it`s your daily driver lockup would be the way to go, if not your dd then go non lock.
A kevlar band is sold for the 1.5" (aod) and 2" (aode/4r) so hard to say what yours is. od is not used in drag racing anyhow (at least I hope not).
The 4r70w is more than bands and clutches its also a gear change and if you had the 4r gearset your 60' times would be at or below 2.00
With converters you get what you pay for so don`t go too cheap.

Friday's race is at Pacific Raceway in Kent (but closer to Auburn) -off Highway 18. The other thread on this site is a reference to it.
