New to the mustang scene, have some ??'s

Hey all, I've been lurking on this site for awhile, just decided to join.
Got some newbie questions, please bear with me.

1. Found a 02 GT, coupe, 5-speed that I'm really interested in. 25,000 miles, guy is asking $17,500 for it. Too much?? If so what kind of offer should I make him. Car is in pristine condition.

2. What times can I expect from that car stock, 1/4 mile, 0-60, etc...
(I'm in south Alabama, so altitude is not an issue)

3. Been looking at the modification threads, some really good info there. Already decided to go with the Steeda Tri-ax, U/D pullies, and T/A. My question is should I go with an X or H pipe (non-catted). I want it loud, but I want the most power gains as well. Also L/T headers, are they worth it or not.

All I can think of for now, thanks in advance guys!

17k is a little steep for a GT coupe, even if it is in Pristine condition. I would make an offer of 15.5 without insulting him. Pull up a kbb value for your own reference... I looking to sell my 02GT 5 spd. with 21k for 16 OBO.
I think est 1/4 times are between 14-15 stock... i may be wrong!
Just my .02.
Congrats on joining the board.

I recently bought my 02 GT with 19,000 miles on it for $16,800 and that was from a dealer.you should be able to pick it up for around $16,000 no problem.Drive it and make sure the tranny works ok. Alot of problems out there with the 3650 5 spd that comes in those cars. It is under warranty but it's a real pain in the a$$ dealing with Ford.Look for a clunck shifting into 2nd, or popping out of gear.Read the tremec issues thread at the top of the 4.6L forum for more details on what the problems consist of ,also do a carfax and make sure the title is clean. GOOD LUCK! :nice:

Thanks for all the great info guys. I did a KBB search and they said it was worth $15,025. I'll think about offering him that and see what he says. I will also definitely check out the transmission (I've heard about all the problems the 3650 has) is a "clunk" or difficulty going into 2nd all I need to watch out for, and does this only happen under hard acceleration/shifting, or is it all the time? Thanks again :nice:

For that price I would go for a 99 Cobra :)Hey if you just started to like mustangs, then why not start off with a bang :nice:

Drive the price down a bit. I got my 02 GT (leather, mach audio) w/15k miles, nothing but synthetic oil changes, lowered w/eibach springs, chrome cobra wheels, extra set of bullitt wheels and a 72k mile warranty for $15,000... there were cheaper ones w/no extras. Ive seen 02's for like $13 around here. Stock GT's can definately run slightly under 14.

thats a big high..you can have my 03 GT 5 speed for 17..its got 19k on it and some mods already done :)

anyways, do your research for sure, there are some issues people have but overall the cars really are fun and a good value. good luck :)

HI, there was a 2004 GT here in KY with 700 miles on it for $17,000 with leather and all options red in color. It was titled, and then traded in about a month later back to Star Ford dealership in Louisville.. I wanted yellow and passed on it. That was the best deal I had seen on them....

The mods you list is a good start, if you want loud then go with Magnaflow catted x-pipe and Magnapack catback sound awesome and Badass. also get some gears. The only way you can tell if longtubes are worthless is if you try it, I heard that it is and it's not, so not sure. Stock 02 GT should run mid-low 14s with a good driver and high-low 13s with a Damn good driver. Welcome aboard:nice:
