Mine was a 5 spd and I pulled the tranny and left the bell on the motor. If you have a leveler it makes the job much easier.

I just removed the (1) nut on the u/side of the K member and left the mount bolted to the motor... same deal on re-assy, bolt the mount to the block. this way you only have the (1) nut to deal with.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

Yeah, you can pull the engine and leave the transmission in. Make sure the front end of the transmission is well supported. With the engine out, it's going to want to flop down. There are 6 bolts holding the bellhousing you have to remove, and a few small ones on the bottom. The clutch will come out with the engine. You'll have to lift the engine up, and slide it forward off of the input shaft to the transmission.

Update

The project is still going. I haven't posted in awhile but I have been doing some work on the car. Block is pulled and apart and I'm awaiting the arrival of parts. Seems the ice in Atlanta slowed down shipments from Summit, but parts should be here soon. I couldn't get a descent quote from a local machine shop on redoing the block, so I decided to put the orginal block aside and ordered a short block from CREB enginerring. The block should be here in a couple of weeks and the other parts this week. Once I start the build process I'm very sure I will be on here asking questions again. Thanks for everyone's help and I will keep you posted.

Quick Update:

The short block from CREB arrived a few weeks ago. The build process has started. I got the new oiling system, cam, Timing set and heads on over the past couple of weeks. Really taking my time and triple checking everything to make sure I have it right. Good thing too, because I thought I had my timing marks lined up, but when I degreed the cam I found that I was off by one chain link. Hopefully, I will have it finished off this weekend and put it in the car the following weeknd. So far it has been fun....but a little more expensive than I had budgeted....little things add up quickly. Progress pictures attached.

Are you running the cam timing straight up? It's hard to tell from the pics. Might want to consider advancing it, but I'm not sure what the rest of your setup will be. So far looking good, and yes it can get expensive very quickly. Take your time, do it right and you won't regret it. There's nothing like a shiny new motor

Yeah it is straight up. I want to be a little conservative with the set up because I ll be runnning a supercharger. Set up basically the trick flow stage one kit minus the upper and lower intake and a rebuilt but close to stock bottom end.

Got everything together and realized I missed something. I know these came off when I took off the oil pan, but I can't remember if they go under the gasket or over the gasket?? Not even sure if they are needed? Oil pan fits fine w/o them and they seem like an invitation for a leak. You guys have any thoughts?

Those are OEM stiffeners... they go on the outside when you bolt the pan up.
If your running a stock pan them use em...no sense asking for a oilpan leak.

At least you don't have to redo the gasket and RTV.
