I am considering getting a new car next year, and keeping my car as a dedicated track car. I will either be putting a deposit on a GT500 or a 2007 STi. I am just trying to get a feel for the owner community for Mustang. I always told myself I would never buy another Ford, but I have a soft spot for the old Shelby's and the new body style Mustangs. If I buy it it will mainly be a daily driver, and occasional track car just to see how it compares to my STi. Any thougts on this descision?

Andrew my friend, you've come to the right place. I feel the Cobra is one of the best cars you can buy. I have a Laser Red 01 Cobra, one of 556. So it is a rare car, well, not super rare, but more rare than a common everyday car.
I feel almost the same about Ford, I will not buy anything but a Mustang or F150 from Ford.
Anyway, I hope you decide to come over to the SVT family, you won't regret it.

Well I think I will probably buy the GT500. I can be in both the Subaru and Mustang communities. I love my STi, but I'm ready to fully prep it for road racing. It's pretty modded right now, but I'd like to have it go further. The GT500 will be awesome and I can't resist.

That's cool, I wouldn't mind having a GT500, but I know I won't be able to afford that.
Glad to hear you are going to get a Cobra though

SVT all the way. The guys in the forums on this site are helpful with anything you have questions or need opinions about. Go with the Cobra!

I'm not sure of the extent of your mods on your STi, but if the 07 Cobra is anything like the 03/04's, then a few simple bolt ons will make you wonder why you put all that money into the STi in the first place.

a few laps around a road course and you would know why I put all that money into the STi. The STi handles much better. I'm not really into drag racing, but if I get the GT500 I might do it a little more. I am sure with some sticky tires the GT500 could beat my STi's best time. I've only been to the drag strip a few times. Stock I went to a 1/8th track and ran an 8.5 @ 84, and with my current mods I ran an 11.9 @118 in a 1/4. Like I said the I want to turn my STi into a dedicated road course car not a drag racer.

Not trying to sound mean, but you came here asking about a Cobra, so please don't come here singing the sti's praises, I personally don't care about the sti, if I did, I'd go to a sti site and hang out there. You asked on a Mustang site in the SVT section if you should get a Cobra. You had to have known what we would all say. Did you ask the same question on the sti site?
If you can afford both, keep your sti, turn it into some road racer or whatever it is, get a Cobra and turn it into a quarter mile drag car or keep it as a daily driver. The Cobra in the long run is going to be a more rare car than the sti and I feel a better overall car.
But this is a Mustang site and the SVT section so I am going to be biased.

Ok. I agree. I will be keeping both. I'm sorry for liking my STi, but I wasn't bashing the Cobra. I obviously want to get one or I wouldn't be posting this. I was askied why I put money into the STi and I answered. That said I can't wait to put a deposit on a new GT500.

My bad Andrew, I think it's my man time of the month or something. I've been kind of mean the past couple of days.
Sorry about that.
No hard feelings I hope
