Whats up guys I bought my first Saleen today its a 2001 S281 #430 with only 1000 miles on it. :nice: Anyway I need some advice on giving it a deeper sound to the car and freeing up some HP. It's 100% stock right now. Any suggestion just wanna do bolt ons for now. Thanks in advance Don't know much about Mustangs i use to own a TT Supra so any help
Thanks

He's supercharged.

Congrats on your purchase. You will get a truckload more attention with your Saleen than your Supra. Unfortunately, you would need to do an equal amount of work to make alot of power.
Try to get used to your car as much as possible before you start modding it too much. Adding decent mods to your Supra helped it's value.
Listen to me. Whatever mods you perform on your Saleen save every stock part. Your car will be worth more in it's stock form in the long run. I'm talking about the chrome wheels and etc. I'm not saying don't mod you Saleen, just be selective.
To start, you should try some 3.55's or possibly 3.73's ( rear gears, will work nocely with your max grip diff. ) and if you want the car to sound more agressive and free up a few hp go with a Bassani x-pipe with cats. You have Borla mufflers. That combo sounds perfect if you ask me. That should help a bit and give you the deeper sound you want. You could go no cats, but alot of guys complain about it sounding a bit raspy.
If you want another 20-30 rwhp try a smaller pulley, bigger fuel pump, and a decent cold air kit. Possibly a Chicane RIPP kit. These are only my opinions. Others will chime in.
Most importantly get it retuned, an SCT tuner or anyone familiar with Diablo products can take care of business for you. You will need either a tune or have Saleen reflash your computer for your new gear ratio if you go that route to correct your speedo.

Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

Hey thanks a lot for the info i think a cold air kit would be my first
I definately wanna keep it as stock as possible. Do you have any sites or any suggestions where to get these parts at a good price?Diablo? I think my Dad's Lightning has that chip. can I add the chip even if i don't change out the gears? Thanks in advance

All decent good guys.

Sure you can change your chip seperate from your gears. Just make sure they attend to the different gear swap so your speedo reads right and you dont rack up phantom miles on your new ride.

Cheers

I agree about swapping out the gears and I would also yank the “Saleen” shifter and put in a Pro 5.0. The Tri-axe by Steeda is also very popular. I hear good things about the new model from MGW, as well.

It may not give you a “deeper” sound but a catted X-pipe from Magnaflow or Bassani would be a satisfying exhaust mod.

You can see details on my shifter through the link in my sig.

I had a 94 MKIV TT and converted to a single turbo. Than I purchased an 03 350Z and put an ATI blower, cams and a host of other things for 400 rwhp. 6 months ago I bought an 01 281SC.

Coming from a 600rwhp supra my stock saleen felt pretty weak. I started with the 3.73 gears, densecharger fenderwell intake, 66 mm sc pulley, shorty headers, bassani x pipe w/o cats, aluminum driveshaft, svt fuel pump, ported the blower and had an sct tune. I pegged the maf and had to stop the dyno around 5.5K RPMs. I had only made 347rwhp / 381rwtq. I'm guessing I may have been close to 355rwhp. After this I decided to port the manifold, add stage 2 heads, add blower cams, forged rods, pistons, crank, df clutch, cobra pumps/tank, s5 inlet kit 90 mm lmaf, 42 lbs injectors, arp bolts, bearings and a few other things I have forgotten about. I'm hoping to be in the low to mid 400's, which should put this thing in the 11's. Then in the next few months I will either sell it or put the s5 blower on and complete the Extreme makeover. I don't think my resale value will go down for adding the same stuff that saleen puts on their Extreme but I am keeping many of the stock parts. If I sold it I would guess it would be in the summer months and I would ask $30K. Blue book is $28K but I have around $20K in mods that have been done in the last 6 months. The car has 20K miles on it

Out of curiousity, how much did you pick up your 01 for?

I am also a newbie and I am thinking about buying a 2005 Saleen. From those of you that either own them or have knowledge about them, are they really worth the price?? Would you buy one or would you wait for the Shelby coming out in 06?? I have never owned a Saleen. I had a 2000 Corvette and it was awful for maintenance and was a major disappointment.

20,000. my dad cut me a killer deal in my opinion

I love the car a little more now it turns more heads than i thought. But I am iching to get another Supra in a six speed my old one was an auto. Basic bolt on made that car fly. But as long as my Saleen can still kill civics and ricers i ll be more than happy with it as well.
thanks for the advice
