I'm new to StangNet and to Mustangs in general, and have a fairly pointed tire-size question that may or may-not have been covered (couldn't find an exact answer in previous posts.) I just bought purchased an '88 GT about two weeks ago—the car I've wanted since I was about 12-years old—and it needs a new set of sneakers. The suspension is completely stock, and previous owner installed 17x9 Cobra R wheels (not sure about the backspacing or offset) with 245/45/17 Dunlop's all around—which don't rub or hit on anything. My question is: I'd like to run 255/40's up front and 275/40's in the rear. I'm willing to flip the quad shocks, but don't want to go messing with much else . . . does anyone know if this combo will work? I'm open to any suggestions on alternative tire sizes. Thanks for your help . . . I have many other questions, but will hit you with them one at a time.

Stick with 245s up front, any wider and you will probably run into issues with them rubbing bad at full turns. It isn't much fun trying to park.

275s in the rear will work if you flip the quad shocks, but depending on your exhaust they might rub the tail pipes. You also might have to hammer the wheel well a little to get rid of some of the bumps that might rub.

It really all depends on the backspacing of the rims, that has an effect on how the tires will fit.

One thing to remember, if you have two different wheel sizes, you have to make damn sure your alignment is perfect. You won't be able to rotate the tires properly.

Like Fett said, I would stick with the 245's in the front as it will make it hard to turn if you go any wider. Also, the overall height of the 245/45 tires will be a lot closer to the height of the 275/40 tires. I'm currently running the 275's in the rear with no problems but I don't have quads.

Thanks for the input guys . . . I really appreciate it. Sounds like I'll be going 245/front and 275/rear.

i'm running 245/45/17 front, 275/40/17 KDW's rear on 17x9 cobras, stock suspension. i had to cut one of the dust shields off my new quads because it rubbed, but its all good now. (i think my axel or something is off-center) i found i actually had more clearance WITHOUT the quads flipped..... the 275's lookand perform way better than 245's! love em
