I just bought an 05 GT from an auction and I have a few questions. This car has quite a few mods; one of them being cams. How can i tell what cams this car has? Also with the below list of known mods what kind of rwhp should it put down? (assuming it is tuned properly) The car runs about 75 mph at 2500 rpm; is that normal or do you think the car has a gear in it? And one last question; I believe this car has a stall in it; how can I tell what stall it is?

Kooks Long Tubes
Kooks Catted X-pipe
Bassine Axle back
C&L Cold Air
Stall?
Gear?
Cams?

Thanks for all of the help

I have 410's and at 60mph I'm turning 2,300rpms and at 80mph I'm turning 3000rpms (5spd auto) as for it having a stall.....I had a 3,500 stall in a 79 Z-28, and say I was rolling at about 20mph and tromp on it, the tach would shoot to 3,500 the converter would lock, car would launch like a rocket and the tires would uh light up, just like dropping a clutch @ 3,500. I would think you should be able to tell what size stall it has by doing the same thing, maybe not tho with the newer computerized trannys, I just dont know.

I have no idea what to tell you about the cams, sorry. Would they be able to tell that if you put it on a dyno??

You could have somewhere around 325-375HP to the rear wheels???????

Best of Luck and Congrats on the New Stang :nice:

Thanks for the reply. So by what you are saying I probably have 4.10 gear. I will try what you said with the stall. I wonder if there is any stamp on the cams that might indicate what it is.

This is only my second mustang with the other one being a 03 cobra vert. This one has some power but it is not even close to the power the cobra had. Out side of these 2 mustangs I have been a GM guy. So far I really like the car and I got a great deal on it so I think I will be a Ford guy for a while.

I'm pretty sure mustangluver was saying the opposite, that you don't have gears. I would guess it has stock gears if you're riding at 2500rpms at 75mph. I have 4:10's as well, and run about 2800rpms at 75mph.

There was this little trick my Father taught me on how to check the gears, what you do is jack the rear of the car up, support it with jack stands (just for safety, not necessary) put a dot on the driveshaft (magic marker, piece of tape...etc) make sure the car is in neutral, spin the tire one revolution.....count how many times the drive shaft turns using the dot as your referance, if you have 410's the DS should turn just over 4 times, this is not an exact science, but it will be close.

When I installed the 373's in my 92 5.0 I tried out my dads method, turned the rear wheel one revolution and the DS spun around 3 3/4 times=373.

You can try that out and see what you get.

I was turning 1900rpms at 60mph with my stock 331 gears in my 06 Stang and if memory serves me correctly it was somewhere around 2200-2300 at 75......you may have 355's or maybe even 373's, try out that what I told you see what you get.

Like I said, its not an exact way to tell your gears, but it should get you close to what you have.

Thanks I will try that this weekend. I did look today and 80 mph is at 2800 rpm.

I am not sure I am liking the stall. It is a little to much for me to be a daily driver. With a stall isn't it really for the launch? Most of my race will probably be from a roll. Would I be better with the stock stall?

Thanks, for all of the advice.

80mph @2800rpm's is def not the stock 331's, dumb question, you were in OD right? A stall is all for launch, when you say rolling starts, about what rolling mph are you talkin? Did you ever figure out what stall is in the car?

BTW: Post up some pics of the Stang :nice:

Mustanglvr2006 yes the car was in OD; as for rolling starts I mean any speed. I have very rarely had the opportunity to race anyone from a dead stop. Most races I have been in were while I was driving down the road. This car does not have much of a highway punch; it shifts down but the very quicky goes back up to overdrive. I am thinking real hard about putting a stock converter or smaller one back in the car. I have not punched it from a 20 mph roll to see what it jumps to.

I will put up some pictures this weekend; maybe someone will recognize the car and chime in as to who used to own it. I would love to be able to speak to the previous owner to get the modification information from them.

Thanks for your input
