Hey guys thought I'd register and say hey. yes I'm a newbie to ford, mustangs, and the fox body. On Thursday I am going to pick up a 89 LX Notch SSP. I honestly have no idea what I am going to do with it. I am guessing my first mods are going to be exhaust, cold air intake, and a set of 1.7 roller rockers. Then I am planning on moving on to suspension and apperence. I plan on leaving the cars apperenced mainly stock other than a 2.5 inch cowl hood, a set of rims, and a fresh coat of paint. As far as suspension I am aiming at a tight nimble car. It is going to be a daily driver so I am looking for a mild comfortable build, try to hang it around 300 to 335whp on the stock cam.

Eitherway guys, forum looks good, look foward to hanging out and shooting the ****.

This will probably get moved to talk, but welcome to the boards.

You are a lucky SOB to be starting your journey with a notch back SSP... Some guys around here would kill to be in that position. :D

300 to 335 rwhp probably isn't going to happen with the stock cam without some sort of a power adder. Its possible, but plan on spending some serious coin on the cylinder heads and intake!

I'm not locked into the 300-325hp range and I am not against going with a e303 maybe but I dont know yet. I'd love to have the lumpy idle and I do plan on a set of trickflow twisted wedge or AFR 185cc heads. I'd love a mid to low 13 second car that is nice on the street. After that I may spray it with a 75 shot to attain 12's when I want but not sure.

also sorry about this being in the wrong section.

I don't think you need to bother with rockers unless your doing Heads, Cam, Intake. Also don't bother with a CAI unless you want the looks they don't really make much more power than the stock airbox and a good filter.

IMO, make sure the car is clean and solid, go through and replace anything old and worn and then worry about upgrades. SSP's are a limited commodity so make sure anything you do is tasteful.

Welcome, :D.

I plan to keep it tastefull. I am one that thinks of speak softly and carry a big stick. You say the 1.7's would be pointless w/o heads/cam/inyake then what is my best course of action. I dont plan on anything major at first I'd just like to get a little more pep out of it because I am going to start on body and interior. I'm car guy so I cant leave performance totally alone for the time being lol.

Thanks for the welcome guys!!!

Welcome!

The best thing to start with is a K-member brace, subframes, and a strut tower brace to stiffen the old fox chassis. I just now did this and its one of my favorite mods on my DD fox.

Without tearing into the engine you can start with the bolt on and free mod stuff; like bump the timing up, underdrive pulleys, e-fan, a removed air silencer with a K&N filter in the stock airbox works just as good as a CAI. Then do a basic tune up with plain ol' Motorcraft copper plugs and you'll be set.
