Tonight I finished installing the headers, and power washed the transmission cross member. I was also able to order my energy suspension engine and transmission mounts. That means I am ready for big things... If only I had an engine hoist.

Right when I thought my work day sucked, the UPS man showed up at my office. My mounts and a couple sensors are here. I think I am going to have suck it up and buy an engine hoist. I dont have much time before the IA winter starts.

Ha, I lack a tractor, strong overhead rafter, etc. Im just a plain old dude living in the burbs with minor tools. Good news is that I had someone come through for me on a hoist. Im going to pick it up after work today. Bad news is we are going out of town this weekend. All I need to do is unbolt the mounts, and its ready to come out. Maybe I'll get it done one night this week yet.

Tonight was a good night. I was able to pull the old dying heart out. Afterward I removed the old motor mounts, because Energy Suspension does not include new hardware with their mounts.

Yes, I am basically working in a circus of bikes, general garage sht, assorted kids toys, and car parts. But work is getting done.

We are leaving town tomorrow right when I get home from work, and Sunday is my wife's Bday. So this is where I sit until next week. Ready to go back on the ground and rolled outside for powerwashing all the gunk off the K member, frame rails, AC compressor, etc.

One more thing. My power steering pump whines like a lil b*tch, and my steering rack has a leak. The thought crossed my mind of simplifying this and going for a manual quick ratio rack. This is a street car, but only a weekend car. Any of you guys have first hand experience with a manual rack? I can only assume its a little easier than a power rack with a pump that went out...

As long as you aren't regularly parallel parking, should be fine. Once you are moving it's not an issue. It's low speed maneuvers that suck.

An wide tires, also if you have a flat at speed the pull is tremendous vrs power steering, fix/replace the rack and the pump, use power steering fluid and flush it the first time you start the car, I cranked the engine over filling the pump, took a couple times, I then ran a quart let'n the return line dump into a bucket, keep the reservoir full, my pump has 150k on it and is barely heard, just turn up the tunes.

@karthief , I appreciate the input brother. The power steering whine is one of my biggest annoyances with 80's-90's Fords. Im still on the fence about it. Manual rack would be nice just to eliminate all the fluid mess and hassle, but I am definitely not sure I will like it. Wish I knew someone with a flaming river setup I could test drive.

ive been mulling around the idea of using a pump from a turbocoupe and a remote reservoir..... should keep the pump full all the time and eliminate the air issues.

My pump used to be very loud. After installing the 03 cobra rack, I refilled the entire system carefully and used a vac pump to try and eliminate the air bubbles when I refilled it. It's definitely much quieter than it was. You can still hear it, but nothing like before.

I'm using a remote mount system from an 02 mustang, sourced from Rock Auto
It can't even be described as noisy,..ive never noticed the thing at all. I never followed a full regimen, I just poured the fluid in till it was full.

Elaborate please, did the pump fit the factory bracket? Custom bracket ect.... I would like it to fit my stock ps pump bracket

Has anyone ever really had a stock Ford PS pump outright fail? I will admit that I have never ever, in 15 years of ownership and about 80k miles, changed the PS fluid. I know, I know, boo, hiss. It makes some noise but still works like a champ.

My cars have always had stock pumps. This pump works and doesnt leak, just whines. My old 95 whined. My high school Fox whined. But no, I have never seen or heard of one giving out now that you mention it. My '97 Cutlass did. That is how I know what no power steering on a stock PS rack feels like.

Had the pump on my 97 7.3 turbo SD go south. Oh and the pully fell off once neither of my foxes had problems though.
