Son of a b*t*h, its supposed to be down in the 30's for highs this weekend.

My new tank will be here tomorrow, however I dont know if the POR15 I ordered will be. Worst case I can get my fuel pump and sender installed in the tank, and get it cleaned off and painted. I saw where @RaggedGT said painting a new tank is a must for longevity. I dont want to drop this B again until it time for 600+ hp.

I bought a MAC o/r H pipe that will be here Friday, as well as my alum driveshaft on Thursday. I have some off brand high flow cats that I plan to weld into the H pipe. They have been laying around for a couple years, but were never used. They gone get used naw. So by Thursday night I should have the car ready to rock, aside from bolting up the exhaust.

First start up is nearing!

Be warned, that cosmoline they throw on the tanks is stubborn. Wasted $7 at the car wash trying to get it all off.

So youre telling me since my car will rarely even see rain, I can probably get away without that painting step... I'll decide that when I get mine and see whats what. Thanks for the heads up!

Dirt will stick to it though, that's why I forged through it and tried to get most off before painting.

I thought the same thing since my car doesn't see rain either, until I saw everything stuck to it pretty well.

Hot water and Dawn dish soap or a good degreaser takes the cosmoline right off- I really do recommend coating any tank- even if it's a fair weather garage living cruiser

I have a fresh can of engine degreaser, so I'll give that a whirl. Didnt even think about the dirt sticking part.

Sigh ......

It's a gas tank. Some of the smoothest cleanest metal under that car. Let me give you a set of instructions for cleaning the oily film off of it.

1. Get some rags, and a qt of store bought lacquer thinner. ( if you need to, buy the rags there too).
2. Pour the thinner onto a rag. ( rag A)
3. Wipe the oily film off.
4. Pour the thinner on a new rag.
5. Chase the residue left over from rag A.
6. Drag finger over squeaky clean tank.

Sorry Mr Knowitall, I didnt bother doing this with that new tank I put in the Ranger. I was going for ease of work. Spray with degreaser, power wash it off in my little wash/paint station in the backyard. Seems like less elbow grease required my way, but I'll pick up thinner and rags just in case. I have other things I can use them for anyway. After checking out @Mustang5L5 's journal, I realized I forgot to buy a new pick up. Ordered it this morning. First start just keeps getting pushed out while I realize what Im missing.

Pfffft...how much harder is it to drag out a power washer than to just wipe it with a rag? IDK if you know this, but that "degreaser" you keep referring to leaves as much of a non paint ready surface after as it had before.

I just enjoy getting Mike worked up, lol. Also, I realized your tank is going to win this competition, because I am not buying the foams. I have a whole roll of foam tape just sitting in my toolbox, so Im gonna use that since its paid for and already here.

$50 was a little ridiculous for those foams. About to go to LRS's site and write a review stating exactly that. They should be $20 max.

My powerwasher is already sitting outside all hooked up from having to spray off everything that I remove from the car. Na nah na nah boo boo.

Spray it w/ your engine degreaser then. Pressure wash it off w/ your already hooked up pressure washer after that. ( only i thought that you Iowa boys were already seeing below freezing temps.....frozen water in pressure washer pumps make for broke ass pressure washers)

Then paint it.

You can worry about fixing the f'd up paint later.

I already forfeited the pretty tank contest due to not ordering the pretty new foam. Fish eyed paint is just character shining through for you to cringe at.

I have four Mercury " God head" center caps that I'm gonna put on the Monsters wheels...they came off of a Marauder. Since they were chrome, and the Monster don't take kindly to chrome, I painted them.

Then, w/o reading the instructions, I recoated them.

Now I have wrinkle finished Mercury God heads, that were supposed to be smooth.

But the monster's like a honey badger.....He just don't care.
