1.) Around how many hours does it take to install a nitrous kit if the person knows what he is doing?

2.)How big of a shot would you recomend on a gt with bolt on's and still be safe? Some tell me stick with a 100 shot and others tell me to go with 125 shot.

3.)How much of a hp gain do you get from a dry 125 shot?

4.)Do you need to upgrade anything else on the car when getting nitrous?

5.)What does it cost to fill up a 10lb bottle? $30?

6.)How many runs does a 10lb bottle of nitrous last?

7.)Is it true that nitrous decreases the life of your engine?
 
1. I would say 3-5 at most.
2. start with a 75 shot and go up in steps, I would say a 125 would be the max on the stock fuel pump.
3. Prob. see about 100 or so with a N.O.S. kit but some kits like the NX brand are rated at the wheels so you should see almost 125, The biggie is Trq. you get alot of trq. more than the hp rating in added trq.
4. I would upgrade your ing. n2o will find a weak spot in the ign. system, I ran a MSD digital 6+, it had a power switch that when it saw 12v ret. the timing so I could run 14* N/A and 9-10 when spraying (take out 2* for every 50 hp of n2o used) and had the benifit of a MSD spark box, also gap your plugs at about 35 instead of 5x, run at least a 1* colder plug and it would be a good time to make sure your cap/rotor/plug wires are good.
5. the price is diff. from shop to shop, but 30$ is a good fair price.
6. Bigger shot less runs on 1 bottle, smaller shot more runs. a 125 shot got me about 4ish good runs and some playing around time, while my freinds 150 got him about 3 and it was done. none of us had a warmer for the bottle so that will help along with a blanket.
7. n2o does not kill motors people who run n2o under wrong conditions/tunes do. run the fuel press. safty switch, window switch (this will let you spray in a rpm "window" so you dont spray at too low a rpm or over rev and hit the fuel cut off at 6,250rpms), and use the WOT switch so you do not spray at anything less than WOT. n2o will actually clean off the carbon buildup on the pistons. and many people use n2o and get alot of miles out of a car.

blksn955.0 hit it right on. and like he said, if youre safe about using it, it will not decrease engine life. run colder plugs, run high octane, lower timing, only use above 3000 rpm, a window switch is a GREAT investment, and just do not allow the car to detonate.

So I have to decrese my timing and fill up with a higher octane gas?
And I have to change my ignition correct?

Yup 93 octane or what ever you have at your dispossal (highest octane you can get from the pumps).

You have to run colder plugs If you want you can upgrade your coil it's pretty cheap $50 or so for the MSD tfi super coil from summit.

So I can just upgrade the coil and run colder plugs?I don't need a new ignition?

What about the fuel pump.Can I keep the stock one?

And as far as the higher octane gas...do I need to run a higher octane gas all the time or just when I use the nitrous?
 
If you spray 125 I would upgrade the fuel pump...
The reason NX is rated at the wheels is cause it is a WET kit.... Dry kits are safer but do not hit as hard...
A mag i read a while back got 88 hp and i think about 136 lb/ft of torque of a ZEX dry kit.
try to get a basic understanding of n2o before you start using it...its is not safe when misused or used by someone with little experience or knowledge. I have a 190 lph in tank pump and a kirban AFPR. AS for ignition, stock is fine. Re-gap the plugs, definitely run 93 octane gas when spraying, going price around here to public is $3.50/lb
 
What other stuff do I need to buy when getting nitrous?

A purge kit?
Anything else that I may need?

Also how do you spray the nitrous?
When your under WOT and over 3000 rpm's do you press some sort of button or switch? Does a nitrous kit come with that or do I have to buy one seperately.

Right now I'm looking for the cheapest and most basic way on the nitrous kit,so anything I don't really need I don't want.
 
You can spray w/o a purge or warmer but it's beneficial to have them for performance. You can get an o5115 kit from NOS. You can add the purge and warmer later. The WOT switch is attached to your tb so if you just back off a little it will stop spraying. You activate the system with an arming toggle switch and then it will spray when the WOT switch is pushed on the tb @ WOT. You'll understand better when you see the WOT switch. So don't WOT it until you're over 3k. On street tires it's worthless to WOT it anyway in 1st.

king cobra, ill try to lay out everything for you.

first off when you get a kit, youll get the bottle, neccessary lines, brackets, and the nozzles aka jets (for different hp settings). depending on whether you get a dry (nitrous only) or wet (nitrous and additional fuel) youll get 1 (dry) or 2 (wet) solenoids. this may vary by manufacturer, but most come with a WOT switch. youll have to see it to grasp how it works, but it is simple and effective. the kits do not come with a purge or a bottle heater, but neither is a necessity to run nitrous properly. the function of the purge solenoid is to vent the nitrous lines of n2o vapor. nitrous is very cold (like -120*F if i recall right) and as it heats it evaporates into gas (it is in liquid form in the bottle). the purge clears the line of this vapor to allow a more effective run. also nitrous operates at an optimum bottle pressure of ~1000 psi, but in the cold, bottle pressure can drop, and by warming the bottle you can effectively raise pressure.

as far as the tune, when i am planning on running nitrous, i have a specific tune i use. i run 1 range colder plugs (autolite 24), run 93 octane, decrease timing to 10* (i ran 8* last time out), and usually pour in some octane booster, jsut for piece of mind.

also remember, unlike super or turbo charging, nitrous is only "on" when you turn it on, so having a tune for optimum N/A performance will not effect the car in a bad way. (just dont run the N/A tune while using n2o)

also for n2o newbies, when you hit the nitrous, the revs climb very quickly, making it easy to hit the rev limiter at 6250. rev limiter + nitrous = not good. thats why they have window switches. they turn on and off at certain rpms (i use on at 3k, and off at 6k) so if you miss a shift, the window switch will disarm the nitrous solenoid automatically, which could very well save your motor. get one just for piece of mind.

all in all, dont get greedy, be caustious, dont let the speed bug get you and make you throw 150 jets until you confident enough, and research before you just go try it out.

as far as prices i spent $430 on my wet compucar kit. it came with everything- full bottle (it wont get shipped full), both solenoids, lines, etc, and a pressure gauge. i am very pleased with my kit though i dont have much use with it (only 3 passes)

i hear NX makes the best quality, while NOS is the most popular (gotta love the advertising in fast and furious), and i havent heard much feedback on any othe companies.

I'm trying to do as much reasearch as I can.

How much is a window switch? I may need it since I have 4:10's.
 
My window switch was like $100+/- for everything I think, you have to get the rpm "pills" that plug into it also. A good coil will be a good start, but you might want to look into a box of somekind in the future, like I said I liked the digital6+ so I could run a good 14* n/a and 8-10* on n2o without leaving the inside of the car (and no use for wrenches).

I got my compucar wet kit from a local guy I know who was selling his I got the kit without a bottle for $100 and bought a compucar 10lb bottle on ebay for $100. A little fact about compucar, they rebuild there noids for free, you just have to pay for shipping there and back.....
