Well ever since I got the cams I've though about doing nitrous and several people have been pressuring me to do it also. Now my dad is even recommending it and he's also trying to get me to baby my car. I already know what kit I would get if I got one.. but quite honestly, I'm just scared of nitrous. Not just scared that it'll blow up and kill me or that I'll be stupid and wreck my car with it, but that it'll cause problems for my car. If I did go with nitrous what is the maximum shot I would want to put on my current setup? I'm guessing I'll have to modify the fuel pump of course and get better injectors? I'm already pushing 296rwhp.. I was thinking if I were to do a 100 shot i would be close to 400 at the wheels? I dunno it just seems scary cuz it also makes me concerned for my block. So someone tell me what exactly I need to do to run the safest with nitrous. I would DEFINATELY be getting it tuned for it. I don't like how I would have to switch my tunes to race someone and I've heard that with all the hardware needed to run a good nitrous setup (for example spark plugs) aren't as good for N/A. Opinions? thanks! :)

Spray it. you'll love it.
Ok Now that is over.
Items you'll want/need.
1. SVT pump at the min. stocker works I ran mine on it all last season but not something I would suggest.
2. Tune makes or breaks the car.
3. Colder plugs are really suggested ( I've played with the gap on mine till I found where I had decent na numbers and good nitrous numbers) You are correct n/a power does drop off with them if you just slap them in and run
4. window switch - ok you don't have to have one but it makes it idiot proof.
5. bottle heater - you'll want one so you can tune the car to a certain bottle psi that way you know your safe ( torchs work but I'm not starting that discussion)
6. blow down tube - Not sure what track you race at but I know Ohio Valley requires it to run Beech bend they don't even look at my car. and us60 do they have tech?

Now for what size shot. Depends on what you want to run. I personally like the 100hp shot on my car I run the et's I want, and I'm flowing less fuel through the intake. Only you can answer that question but I know several people that spray a 150 jetting in their stock bottom end heads cam cars with zero issues.

I assume you already have a tune with the cams. If so are you running a handheld or chip?
If your on a chip I'd get a flip chip that way you can just flip the switch when your ready to spray. If not then just have the tune in the handheld and flash it. While it gets old if your using an xcal2 at least you can set your 2step for the nitrous and etc while doing it.
Honestly I now wish I had went with the flip chip instead of the xcal2 but alas i liked all the "features" the xcal2 had.

It all depends on what you want from the car.....if its a street car nitrous is good for the highway runs and messing with camaros.....lol If your looking for a good track run you have enough power already to run low 12's
......My car has stock heads, block and cams and with the right parts runs 12's all day long and I ahve 17 in rims and is a daily driver....look at lightening parts and suspension parts.....I put all 260 hp to the rear wheels and have beaten mustangs running gears, nitrous 100shot, intake and tires at the track......its about putting the power to the ground.....if your looking for the 11 sec pass then add a small 50-75 shot and your there.....

+1 However I wouldnt go over a 125shot. Theres a post in talk right now of a guy that blew up on a 150shot. Shot a rod thru the block even. My buddy did the same thing on a 150shot. His car is still sitting waiting on a built motor.

Ive run more bottles than I can count thru mine with a 125 shot with no problems. The only issues I have read about have been with 150 or higher on a stock bottom end.

Oh and for your Stage II cams it will be awesome. It will give you your lowend TRQ back and get you into the cam power band instantly. :hail2:

Don't get me wrong I love NX stuff but why is everyone so excited over the 2v plate kit they have? The fuel puddling issue on 2v's is at the bottom of the intake ie between the heads. Not in the plenum which is all that is been cut out with the plate kit. Now I can see where it "might" increase trq a lil due to the length been added to the intake. ie spacer.

hmm.. all good stuff. I had already decided that if I do it, I'll be going with the NX kit.. and of course the accessories which means I'll have a lot of the stuff you mentioned. My goal isn't really to run a certain time or just use it for street racing. It's just to add something to let me run with some of the faster cars and I could run NA to run with some of the average cars on and off the track. hmm

A while back Christie, I was SERIOUSLY considering this too. (about a month ago) I looked all into it and was deciding on a 75 shot (NX HANDS DOWN...unless you go with the $1300 nozzle NOS setup) . It would be comepletely safe there and our cars would gain around 80+RWHP with it.
The problem seems to be with 150+ shots...and fuel puddling. 125 is too close for comphort for me. And with a 10# bottle a 100 shot would run out fairly quick. SO I just wanted a 75 shot...loads of power, and should last for around 8-10 passes at the track.

But my dad was against it....and it really made me start thinking.

1. This is my DD, how fast does the car need to be right now since 380RWHP can still be easily beat.
2. I could use the $400 in my pocket instead of on something I will hardly use.
3. $30 bottle fillups will get on my nerves
4. Something COULD go wrong with it and I may blow my perfectly good and reliable engine....I bought the car for reliable transportation.
5. I started the N/A club....so how does that work? LOL

SOOOO I ditched the idea haha....and I was THIS close to hitting the "buy it now" on ebay :nonono: . Now, im glad I didnt....a quick blast through 1st and 2nd doesnt leave me board in the least and is more than enough to satisfy my "need for speed" . + I wont get spoiled to having 380RWHP....when I get 380, I will want it ALL the time :rlaugh: . Thats just how I am.

But whatever you do, just make sure your happy and are going to stay satisfied with the car. :nice:

hmm... yeah my car is my DD too, that's why I'm being pretty cautious on the situation. I hear there's ways to be pretty safe with nitrous, but I really don't see how. Like I said I'm pretty scared of it. But I dunno. Just trying to figure out if it's something I should save up and buy down the road or if I should spend my money elsewhere (built block, heads?)

Well it can be very safe and this is what I would get if I were "again" in your situation.

RPM window switch (3200-6300...rev limiter @ 6500) = MUST...you do NOT want to hit the limiter on the N20....bye bye engine.

Fuel pressure switch= MUST IMO....your fuel pump decides to quit and bam bye bye engine.

Wide band commander= added safety.... set it to cut off N20 when a 13.8-1 A/F is achieved.

Bottle warmer= reliable performance as it keeps ROUGHLY the same amount of N20 going down the engine.

WOT switch= ofcourse you want that :D

Remote bottle opener= nice to have incase an 03 cobra pulls up next to you on the highway.

I would do a purge, and as not having N20 right away will help with traction at the track, and its definatly not going to hurt the engine as fuel will be sure to get into the cylinders first.

PLEASE GO WITH A WET KIT 100 OR LOWER :nice:

NOTE: Just seems like too many things can go wrong  ...I didnt want to have to be worrying about all that.

But.. even with window switch, if you miss a gear and go WOT.. BOOOM

How do you figure that? WOT with no load = rich (safe)

It would QUICKLY surpass the window switch...and after 6300RPM it shuts the N20 off. So it wouldnt be spraying for really any amount of time were you to miss a gear. Maybe your thinking of the stock limiter @ 6200

But granted I dont know everything lol, and I definatly wouldnt want to miss a gear on the spray. For all I know it may blow...im really not a big N20 guy. Just going off what I heard....

Well.. the only reason I said that was because a buddy of mine who drag races (438c.i windsor in '88 GT with 400 shot, NX Plate kit) talked to me forever about nitrous for my car.. he tried and tried and tried to get me to spray it, but I wouldn't do it. He told me even with the WOT switch and window switch, if I missed a gear and floored it that it would still spray the N2O into the motor and would more than likely spin higher than it's safe to go with the spray.. since you'd be WOT already and then push it back down again in neutral. It was complicated the way he told me about it, but I actually saw it happen one night before he told me about it. Scary thing to see/hear happen.. But he's a HUGE N2O fan, he's even got a refill station at his house :rlaugh:

a 75 or 100 shot would be where to stay. I'd avoid the 125+ shot

It really isn't the horsepower that the nitrous guys love. Look at a dyno of a nitrous run and check out the torque increase. The torque is where its at

Huh???
Ok I run the nx 100 jetting and have always gotten more than 100rwhp out of it. I average 10passes or more out of a bottle. Usually more like 10 passes and a few guest ride alongs out of a bottle.
Your spinning your stock bottom end to 6300+? ok have fun I'll stick with my nitrous and only spin it to 5900 with the rev limiter at 6300. Because everyone I see have a stock 2v bottom end let go is spinning thiers to 6500.
wideband while kinda nice, if the car is tuned properly really isn't needed. Also you'd have to be sure if you were using one that the lean spike in doesn't trip it.
Purge - Yeah I got one. Only times I use it is to pressure down to the psi I want to spray or to bleed off pressure from the solenoids.
Remote bottle opener - street racing is BAD mmmkkkaaayyy. but really if you mount it just right in the trunk flip seat down, lean back turn bottle on. then of course there is the fun of just popping the trunk and walking back and turning it on. That will make LOTS of people back off and decide they don't want none. OH and let's not forget unless your not going to get it tuned or you get a flip chip you won't just be rolling down the road and ready to spray anyways.

If you go nx I suggest just getting the genx upgrade usually the price is lower buying it as a kit vs buying all the items seprate.
