Nitto 555R's

Just wondering how many of you are running some. I am needing some new tires on the back for my 10.5 wheel and am thinking of getting a 555R in a 315. My big question is, How many miles are you guys getting out of them?

I've been through 4-5 sets in the 275/40's on NA 2v's. All the Nitto's will run a bit more narrow than a standard tire in the same diameter. I ran consistant 1.8-low1.90's on street tires. My 60ft dropped to low 1.8's with them. They are more consistant on launch with a proper burnout, allowing you to release the clutch quicker and focus on the tree a little bit more.

The BFG's are a much better drag radial. With stock gears, you should see high 1.7's with stock gears. Same with the MT drag radials. I've run them all, and it depends on your power, gearing, etc.

Miles is so subjective. You can't ask anybody about that with drag radials, bc each car is completely different with regards to track time, passes, 1st-2nd gear burnouts, passes, how they are driven on the street.

Nittos last the longest, and then bfg's and MT's.

I have had a set of Nitto's before, but the wear bars were already gone when I had them. I knew they hooked damn hard on the street. I dont plan on racing this car at all. It's more of a show car than anything. I have a 99gt that I use for racing. BUT, I do like to get down on the car on old roads out in the middle of no where from time to time (not street racing) so I would really like a tire that isnt going to put me in the ditch but also last longer than a M/T drag radial does. Which reminds me, I have heard that M/T came out with a new drag radial that is supposed to last a lot longer than their old ones, anyone else heard this?

BTW Winters, I listened to the sounds clip of your vette a minute ago. Dear lord that car sounds nasty, I love it.

I have a set on a 10.5 rim. I have about 5000 miles on them and I would guess have another 5000 in them. I havent done any drag time with them. They hook great on the street and I havent had any problems in the rain. I'll buy another set after these are through.

my experiance with nitto tripple nickles was okay, millage was not great maybe 7k but I agree its very subjective. They hooked when they were very warm but where super slick in the cold and deadly in the rain.
I love my MT dr's i got they have really got a better tire, now the millage probably isnt great but they hook like no other.

I love my 555R's. These are not an everyday tire, nor are they a track only tire. They are for the car that see less than ~5000 miles per year and gets run at the track and street for fun. They aren't as sticky as the other DRs, but you could get 10k miles instead of 2k miles, like the other DRs. Of course, your mileage could vary, and it just depends on your driving style and how many passes you make at the track.

Thus, they are a perfect fit for my 88. I drive 2000 or less miles per year, run at the track several times per year and drive the car for 'pleasure' on the street. I've had them for 2 years now, and I bet I can get another 3-4 years from them at this rate. At the track, I run high 1.7 60' times, with few traction problems (on a 245-45-17 none the less). You have to put a lot of heat in them to make them sticky, and they seem to work best with automatic cars (less shock load). On the street, any other standard radial tire is pretty much useless on my 88, because they just spin until about 50-60mph. The nittos just hook.
