Ok, I am thinking of getting 2 Nitto 555r's 305/35/18 for my rears. My car is not a daily driver but will maybe once or twice a year need to be used in the rain. Will these tires be ok? I have read that Nitto's are not good in the rain. Just wanted to ask some people that actually had them and could tell me first hand before I bought them.

They are ok in the rain...just take it easy. I have nitto 555 drag radials 315/35/17's on my daily driver and its fine.

How many miles can you expect out of them. Just as a reference point, in 2003, I put 5,000 miles on my car. This year so far (2004) I have only put 1,500 miles on it. I only take it out on nice days. Could I get 15K out of the tires? I am sure the more times you do burn outs and take it to the track the less miles you will see out of them. I rarely go to the track. Basically want to be able to hook up my Kenne Bell on the streets when I get it.

I have the Nittos, 15K miles, work great in rain. I expect several thousand more miles with these tires.

I usually kill mine every 10,000 miles. They won't last long...but you should easily be able to get more than 5,000 miles.

305/35-18 is going to be a bit on the tall side.

For the summer time I run Nttto 305 45 18's on the back and 295 45 18 Good Years in the winter no problem.

They make a 305/45/18 and a 305/35/18.

305/45/18 would be WAY too big, those are for Lightnings.

I haven't seen them in person but I don't think the 305/35 would be too tall. My friend has a 295/35 bf goodrich and they don't look much taller than my 275/35's that I currently have.

Gino, why do you think they might be too tall??

Stock diameter = 25.68"
305/35-18 = 26.4"
305/45-18 = 28.8" <---- Insanely huge. You would need adjustable LCA's just to get the damn thing on the car. Plus it would look like crap unless you were at a drag strip. Not to mention it would throw the ABS light.

You also have to factor in the stock diameter is a 17" wheel and mine is an 18" wheel. So yes, even though the total diameter went from 25.68 to 26.4, an inch of that is the increase in the wheel size. So the tire is not going to be very tall.

The 305/45/18...now that is a different story...those are tall and were made for the Lightnings.

No, that is the overall diameter. Different rim size doesn't matter, the entire wheel is still .72" larger than stock.

A speedcal would correct the speedometer.

Any 305(315) wide tires will be a bit slippery in heavy rain . I get about 6 to 8K with mine but I do burnouts , I'm not very carefull with them , I have to say that they hook very good on the street except when it's cold, the Nitto's thread look alot better then the BFG in my opinion and from what I heard the BFG are stickier then the Nittos ! If you have a power adder they will make a big difference when you launch ( either brand ) !
