I have had these tires on for about a week. I got two for the rear 275/40 and I have bfg kdwII's up front. First impression was they are a little narrower than my eagle f1's look more like a 265 than 275. They have an extremely aggressive looking tread pattern but not as much as the kdw's. So far I have driven in all kinds of weather except for warm temps. My initial impression is that nitto got this tire right. Stiff side wall for cornering, soft compound for traction, and does well in the rain and well enough in cold weather to get the job done.
Rain:
Took a trip last weekend and got caught in some heavy downpours. Tires were only two days old so I was a little nervous as how they would do in the rain. I was driving 75-80 the whole time with no problem. Off the interstate I got on it once to see how the tires would hold up and they did quite well. Lost traction a little bit but not as bad as I thought I would.
Cold:
The weather here has been terrible the last week so most of the time it has been in the upper 30's at night and lower 40's in the day. Tires are 10 times better in the cold than my Eagles were. Don't break traction anymore in second gear when I step on it when its 40 degrees out like I did before.
Ride Quality:
These are comparable to the BFG KDW maybe a little more harsh but not nearly as noisy. KDW's sound like truck tires these are rather quiet from what I notice.
Dry:
Best tires I have owned so far. The warmest day I have had them out was about 60 degrees. Tried one launch dumping the clutch at about 2k and my car bogged hard. Any other tire I had would have at least slipped a little. Cornering seems to be good but I haven't had the chance to push them too hard yet. I plan on going to the track in the next month or so. I will do a follow up them. I think when the temp warms up some more this tire will really shine.
Verdict:
I bought these tires because I wanted a drag radial to launch hard but I still have a dd and didn't want to have the **** scared out of me if I got caught in the rain. So if you want a tire with very good dry traction and safe enought to drive in the occasional downpour I would highly recommend these to you. $318 for the pair through discounttiredirect.com with free shipping.
