No 5th or reverse in T5...

Just like it says. I replaced the tail stock on my 4cyl T5 tranny with one from a V8 T5, and now I cannot get it to go into 5th or reverse, but 1-4 are smooth as butter. It won't even grind, they just won't go.

Any idea's? I really don't want to pull the tranny. (again)

Does the shifter actually go or pretend to go into 5th or R? Both 5th and R are on the same linkage so I am curious if thats the issue.

Nope. I can move it over, but as soon as I try and go up to 5th, or down to reverse, it's like hitting a wall.

These trannies work on V-8's but usually cause isses. As long as you changed out the piolet bearing, you should be okay. Did it work before? Time for a TKO?

It worked great before. I have the proper pilot bearing as well. One of the mount bolts broke off in the pad, so I swapped on the tailshaft from my trashed V8 T5. I had it out for an engine swap, so it seemed to be the easiest way to solve that problem.

This happened to me when I went to put my t5 back together. In my case the 5-R shift rail was bent and when I put the case back on it wasn't aligned properly. I got a spare shot t5 from a friend and replaced the shift rail. I also wasn't too kind on the 5-R shift lever and snapped off the fork at the top.

After replacing those parts it went into reverse fine. I'd say take it back apart (save the fluid) and see whats causing the problem.
