Hey guys... on my 1993 4cyl convert. I'm having an issue with the brake lights. It's been parked for some time ( about 3 months ). Well it went for a new back window and on the drive over the brake lights didn't work. They flashed on one time and didnt work at all the rest of the way. Well last night we took it to the muffler shop for a new pipe and on the way over again it blinked on one time and never again. Now the shop is sayin' there is no power to the switch....

Any ideas on what to check next?

Sincerly,
Mr. 10,012.

OOPS...sorry i didnt post this in 2.3 tech.....

I would check your ground for your rear lights first.

I had this problem when I bought my 92 GT almost the same exact thing !! I tested all the connections, all the bulbs, bought new bulbs, but nothing worked. When you turned the headlights on they light up but when you depressed the pedal nothing !!! After banging my head againt the wall for about an Hour I drove up to AutoZone to see if anyone had heard of the problem. One of the guys own an 89 5.0 Hatch and said he knew what was wrong ! There is a brake pedal switch that is connected to the brake pedal which turns on the brake lights when you depress the pedal ! The switch cost me around $7.00 and about 20 minutes to replace the thing, be prepared to hang upside down to get it done but worked like a charm!! Hope your problem is as easy as this sounds very similar !

Fuse one feeds the brake lights IIRC.

I'd want to ensure the wiring into the switch is sound - there could be an intermittant connection (those switches are kinda mickey mouse).

For a temp solution, you could run fused CONSTANT power to the brake light switch (a new power source). I hate rigs like that, but we need ya to have brake lights.

Good luck.

Well after a brief search ( and a little upside down work ) I found the problem and the answer to why the dumbies at the muffler shop had "no power to the switch". Low and behold the wire itself was broken. They were obviously testing the switch end of the broken wire.... hmmm... no light bulbs popping on there I guess ?

Needless to say, muffler shops are not techs, but neither am I and I figured it out.

I HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS WOOHOOO
