No Brakes help.....

I recently took my calipers off my car so I could clean them. Well Now I got them all cleaned and painted and put back on the car. I bled the brakes like I do on any other car. I got in and tried to apply the brakes and the pedal went clear to the floor. So I tried pumping it a few time. Still clear to the floor. No brakes at all. I need some help figuring out what I did wrong. It does have abs. Is there a reset switch or what? thanks for the help

What did you do about the master cylinder? I suspect that the fluid level got too low and now the master cylinder needs to be bleed.

When doing repairs on the brake system, blocking the pedal half way down will prevent all of the fluid from running out. This will keep air out of the master cylinder.

Ok next question is it looks like there are 2 bleeder valves on the top portion of the master cylinder. In theory if I bleed those I shouldnt have any more air in the master cylinder then correct.

Correct, assuming you did a whippy job when bleeding the corners.

im having the pretty much the same problem... all i did was change my brake pads on the front and now after doin everythin listed above, my pedal still pushes to the floor with only slight resistance after a few pumps. can anyone help?

Suspect that you did not clean and grease the slid pins. Now the brakes can not center themselves over the rotor and adjust correctly.

How did you compress the pistons prior to installing new pads?

The other possibility is that you did not bleed the brakes correctly. Are you using a brake cup? Are you closing the bleed screw before your helper allows the pedal to return to the top? Are you checking the master cylinder to be sure fluid level isn't too low?

Ok I bled the master cylinder at the 2 seperate bleeder valves.....they were full of air. Got that fixed. Pedal was much better. Still a little spongy. Went back around to all 4 corners and bled them again. Problem solved. Thanks for the help. I don't know why ford put the screw pistons on the rear of these things. Crappiest design I have ever seen for a brake caliper. I wish they would have just used the same design as the front calipers. Just the piston you push back in with a c clamp but hey thats just my opinion.

FWIIW, the rears brakes are designed the way they are because of the e-brake.

Glad the problem is fixed.

Remember to block the brake pedal anytime the system is open for long periods of time. An ounce of prevention.....

where are the bleader valves on the master cylinder? and what is a brake cup?

The bleeder valves on my 2000 were on the engine side of the master cylinder. THey have caps on the bleeder valves just like the brake bleeder valves do. I got the one man bleeder bottle and used it so I didn't squirt brake fluid everywhere. PS the one man bleeder is still not a one man bleeder. You will need someone to push your brake pedal.

You must get yourself a pressure bleeder from MotiveProducts.com. It makes brake bleeding very easy and, truly, a one-man job. Use it once and you will kick yourself for not getting a pressure bleeder sooner!
