no compression

well heres the short version, advanced timing, pinged, back it down, thought i did, gun has advancement dial on it and was turned up, car ran real bad, shakes and runs like total crap and i hear air being pushed somewhere that doesnt seem normal. turned timing way down and still runs like crap.i did a compression check on all cylinders all but one read right at 180. the cyl. next to cyl. #1 read no pressure. i put my finger on the hole and could feel air moving in and out, but there was more air on cyl. #1 anyways i took the vc off and all was normal, we put oil ontop the cyl. via spark plug hole to see if compression would change, it didnt. so can anyone help me?

the thing is all the others registered at 180psi and that one had zilch. we put oil ontop to see if compression would come up, it didnt. i hear air moving and im pretty sure thats where its coming from when i crank the engine. it gets more noticeable when i rev it up.

when it's running put your hands around that particular cylinder and see if you feel any air being pushed out.

also, put your finger over the spark plug hole and turn the engine over by hand (or just crank it over a couple times) and see if air is being pushed through the hole.

I hope I'm wrong but if you overadvanced the timing and the engine pinged badly, you might have broken a ring land or cracked the no.2 piston causing a total loss of compression. The air that you hear being pushed somewhere might be combustion gases from the no.2 cylinder escaping into the crankcase. You might hear them come out from the dipstick tube.
Check if you're getting any compression at all but if the answer's no, you're gonna have to pull off the passenger side head to find out what's going on.

Do you have a precentage leakage tester? I would suggest performing a leakage test before tearing into it, if you don't have access to one I would suggest getting a local shop to just run one for you on that cylinder. I wouldn't think they would charge you over 1/2 hr labor to do just that one cylinder.

also, to check your pistons I've heard some people getting a screw driver and bringing the piston to TDC. They then put the screw driver and put it in the spark plug hole to see if there's a hole in the piston. May not be much help but you never know

nope the dipstick doesnt blow out. i got JE/SRP pistons so i doubt they are the culprit. im gonna adjust the rocker arm before i tare into it. if that doesnt work its either A. blown comp. ring B. burnt valve that wont seat right C. or blown head gasket thats just around that cyl. enough to lose compression. i once got like a very small amount of compression out the cyl. when i was testing it. i put my finger on the spark plug hole and turned it over and i felt air going in and out, not as much as #1 but still had some air movement. i was having issues when i hit 5500 rpms the engine nose dived, i forget when it started but i noticed it one day when i was driving and it would have no power and would back down to 5k after it acted funny, if i held first and took my foot off the gas it would backfire. i figured it was rich, the plugs were black when i pulled them yesterday so i knew i was right on that part. the engine once pulled fine till the rev limiter at 6k but it even pulled fine till 5500 when that prob. occured. i plan on pulling the head tomorrow and see whats going on. i hope i dont have to pull the engine again :bang:
but i want to get it fixed so i can drive it, but if i have to re-ring the piston should i just put new bearings in while im at it?
im gonna look it up, but if you kno the # for the head gasket that would be great. i have eddy rpm heads 2.02intake valve, but i dont think that makes a difference since its the same block for all the heads.
