no exceleration

ok, i have a 93 lx. When i step on the gas sometimes i will get next to no exceleration. The RPM's increase at a snails pace, and the car will start to shake (more violently as you try to accelerate). I change gears to keep the RPM's low around 2 grand but the problem remains in any gear. I also get a bang noise from the passengers side every now and then if I try to accelerate to hard. I had origanaly thought it could be a clogged cat, but now i'm just not sure if it's exhaust, engine, or even a tranny problem.

could definetly be a clogged cat or possibly misfiring or dead cylinders

I agree completely I would also be taking apart your distributor cap checking for wear and proper contact, Cleaning it while its apart is always a good idea too......... Check the timing too, it could be out, stranger things have happened!

when i read this line i immediately thought "detonation". check your timing, and all ignition components. more details are always helpful if you can provide any.

do a compression test and if you have not replaced the timing set do it if you have over 80,000 on it.
