I recently purchased a 2001 mustang as a project car and have gotten it to the point to try and start it, it will crank but wont start. After doing some troubleshooting I have determined that I have zero fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I have tested power go to and from the inertial fuel switch and I have getting 12v in and out leading me to believe it is the fuel pump that is bad. Anything else I should check prior to dropping the tank and replacing the fuel pump?

Does the odometer light up with mileage? Does the PCM "talk" to an ODB2 scanner?

If yes then likely the PCM is alive and well. So with confirmed 12 volts in and out of the trunk IFS switch and no fuel prime the most logical point of failure is the fuel pump.

You should also hear the fuel pump kick on for a second or two when you turn the key forward or in the on position. No sound and the fuel pump has failed. From experience I've noticed the last about 75,000 miles. If your one of the lucky few I've heard them lasting well over 100,000 miles.
