AEM EPM

Engine Position Module (EPM) replaces an engine's distributor and allows for the use of coil-on-plug or wasted-park ignition systems on popular V8's

It provides precise engine position using dual zero-speed optical sensors, which offers the advantage of immediate signal generation regardless of engine speed. The EPM easily adapts to any positive-drive, half-engine speed device such as a cam or distributor drive, and can be used with any aftermarket engine management system that recognizes the common 24 & 1 pattern for crank and cam signals.

Do you have to buy their cam position sensor, or can you just use one out of Explorer?

OK, learn me up on this...

Assuming that I don't have a dizzy or anything for the ignition in my 67 except for the starter:

What am I going to need to run this?

How much more is it going to cost me compared to a standard ignition system for the engine described in my sig?

Other than the cool factor, how much of a performance difference is there?

Its been covered before here if u search. Also searching on the corral/hardcore/etc will reveal answers to your questions and possibly create more/different questions

cool. i read the info from the AEM site, but i still have a question ... what would one have to change in order to use it with a stock ford engine management computer?

Im pretty sure thats not possible. You need a computer that understands what everything is doing. Thats why you see these setups with AEM or Megasquirt computers. (and im sure others that im not aware of)

I think Low5.0 did this on his but I think he was having problems with getting it tuned or something. Hopefully he will chime in.

You can't use it with a stock computer.

I wonder if it will work with the exploder eec?

The only eec that will be close will be the exploder for our cars and really at that point it may be easier (more support) to go AEM.

According to the part description a aftermarket computer is required.

R.barn on corral got his to work with the stock cpu but his is a one off deal.

Yes low5.0 has this setup on his car, and last i read was working great.

Low-5.0 has an AEM computer, doesn't he?

then there is that other guy who recently did a 408 with a COP setup, but i don't remember his username right now ... i wonder what computer he has?

also i remember that sorscode did the COP on one of his cars ... maybe he'll chime in too

Yep mine was working great until I busted a piston. AEM or other aftermarket computer is required for this setup. A few people have done this with the Explorer stuff and two coil packs, but I don't think it works well with the COP type setup.

Here's my writeup that I posted on corral, LS2/LQ9 Coils + EPM Install How-To - Corral Forums

I just realized I wont need my Digital 6 or coil anymore, selling that will help offset the cost of the swap!!

I have the AEM EMS and the LS1 coils... I just need the EPM now and time to figure out how to make it work. Your combo is killer Chris!

Just wait till this is ironed out, and the new turbo goes on.

So hard letting it sit as a paperweight.
