ok i know this isnt a stang but since its a 2.3 i figured someone might know whats up with it... its a 94 ranger with the 2.3, 5sp. The problem is its wanting to die if i come to a stop. also itll almost die sitting and idling in my drive way like its tryin to choke itself out, sometimes it will die and other time it will pick it self back up. Sound like its runnin on about 3 cylinders also..the thing i dont understand is it will rev fine with no hesitation. It has new plugs, wires, iac sensor, coil packs, all fluids have been changed as well. Also it sound like theres a gurgling sound through the cai. Any idea of what this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Here is a copy of a post I did on All Ford Mustang Forums, maybe it will help. Do u have any engine codes? 223 224 are ICM related. Hope this helps some, I don't know for sure if this is your problem, but it may be worth looking into.

The following is a problem I had with my 93 wanting to drop to 500 rpms and die while driving or parked. The ICM was showing as bad on the diagnostics that the shop ran, but 3 months later, the same problem was occurin again. This time, the code was still the same, but they said one or both of the coil packs could be causing the ICM to go bad. I replaced both coil packs and ICM and it has been fine now for 4 days. Parts were only $337.00 . Will be finding out tomorrow what the shop bill is, I'm afraid I don't want to know. Anyways, If your ICM goes bad, it might not be a bad deal to spend another $120 to replace coil packs too. My pony has 80,600 on it now and this has been the most expensive engine repair yet. I hope this post helps someone else when their pony wants to just die when rpms' drop.

Same here, car would die and the tach wouldn't read right all the time. I had to put the car in neutral and hold the rpms near 1000 so it wouldn't sputter then die like glowstang had. A cracked coil pack made my ICM short out, but after I replaced both, it ran just fine.
