I was having trouble getting 2nd and 3rd gear lately, I blamed the stock tranny but today at lunch the entire stick stayed in my hand lol :D I removed the cover and leather boot only to see that both bolts were out... :nonono:

I screwed them back in by hand the tranny works like new again :hail2:

Had that happen to me about a month after I bought my current 'Stang. The previous owner had thrown in a Pro 5.0 base and a Tri-Ax handle with a stock knob, but failed to use any kind of thread-locker on the bolts for the shifter handle. I kept hearing this weird rattling in the shifter for about a week, and it was getting to be a pain to throw it into 3rd at times (and especially reverse ... but that's always the case with a T-5). Then one day, I go to throw it into 3rd, and I wind up punching my lower knuckles into the A/C controls (when the trim was still off) and tearing chunks of flesh out of my hand. The lower bolt was still halfway threaded in, but the top decided to jump out at just the right time, I guess.

Soon as it happened, my first thought was that I'd broken the handle in half somehow. As soon as I pulled the boot off and saw the situation, though, I wound up just unthreading the bottom bolt and having an ultra-short-throw shifter for the trip home 'till I could get my hands on an Allen wrench. :D
