Alright radio gurus...my radio buzzes when the engine is running, driving me nutz. Before I spend the money and wreck my back laying beneath my dash, do those inline RFI noise filters actually work? If so any suggestions on brand, specs, whatnot? Thanks.

those are band aids.I have seen a bad battery,bad ground,bad ignition wires cause noise.I use our own filters and they do work, but check everything first.
Just the man i was hoping would reply....I am going to check the grounds really good and buy a new battery cable. I went cheap when I bought them (I was in walmart and i knew i needed them at the moment) they have those cheap stamped metal ends on them. Im going to replace them and my battery (get one that fits) and see if that helps out first. Then if that don't fix things I might hit you up for a filter.

Just a head unit for now. I do have a 200 watt Phoenix Gold amp (its about 8 years old, but a great little amp) and an 8" bazooka tube I planned on putting in the trunk eventually just for a little extra "umph". Not looking to win any competitions, just give my lows a little extra depth.

noise issues are not easily diagnosed. Theres to many variables that can cause noise interference.You cant try a power line filter, but theres a outstanding issue somewhere else.
Well im fairly certain all my grounds (for the exception of the cheap battery cables) are in good form. I rewired the entire car myself with a painless kit for the 67-68 mustang. So all my wires are new and are capable of handling the load. I also have a brand new 65 amp alternator running through a brand new voltage regulator. I did the points conversion as well. The noise is constant...it doesn't rise or fall wth RPM's, its not static either, its a high pitched buzz and its only when the car is running. In accessory its clear.
Alternators and motors (electric fuel pumps, wipers, heaters) are good culprits for this problem. Try taking each one out of the circuit 1 at a time.

Probably a dumb question, but..... You're not using your body as the negative run for your speaker wires, are you? I've seen it done and even seen a brand or 2 of radios recommending it.

I can hear my vacuum pump when it is running (when the car is off). I have the same power wire for the pump and amps (limited switches); would a filter stop this? I have a good battery, and all of my grounds lead back to the battery via 1/0 welding cable. It isn't really an issue with the car running, but I wouldn't mind fixing the problem.

A power line filter would fix that but it would be better to islolate each power wire.Motors generate RF noise and transmit it any accessory on that same power wire.
Just an update on this one....i went to AutoZone and picked up some new 2 gauge battery cables with the good old lead ends on them (not those crap stamped ended 4 gauge ones I had) and the noise is gone! So, it was a grounding issue...thanks for the help.
