so i just bought an 01 cobra the other day and from the day i bought it there has been a noise coming from the driver side wheel. its like a chirping or squeeking noise every time the wheels rotates so it gets worse as i go faster. it does not however make a noise if the brake is being applied even the slightest bit. so i'm thinking there is something on the disc that comes around and kits the brake pad everytime or something like that. any ideas on what could be wrong and what to do about it?

have you checked for squirrels?? lol....seriously though, it might be a wheel bearing starting to go or is shot.

this could be the wear indicators on the brake pads

wouldn't they squeel while applying the brake as well then??

it does not have aftermarket wheels or any mods...i bought it 4 days ago it has 44,000 miles on it and just has the cobra wheels and brakes.

if the rotor is even warped a tiny tiny bit the wear indicators will brush the high surface when the pads are worn out, when you apply the brakes the indicators don't scrub because now the pads are following the rotor instead of being knocked back.

I had to bend the wear indicators back on my girlfriends sunfire the other day because of the same problem. I will replace the pads and rotors when I am not being lazy.

everybody assumes a mechanics car is always in perfect repair. LOL I am sick of working on cars by the time I get to work on my own.

hey svttech, how do u bend the wear indicators back cuz i have the day off from school today and i have all day to fix this problem so if anyone knows where they are on the pads and if i have to take the wheel off let me know. that may not be the problem but its worth a try when i have all day to do it. thanks.

if the rotor is warped or your pads are getting low enough, you should just change them out cause they are at the end of their life. but the squeeler/ wear indicator is on the pad just like you said. just a little piece of metal coming out from the pad to rub on the rotor once the pad wears down enough to let you know to change the brakes. you would need to remove the wheel and look at the pads inside the caliper and go from there.
