Anyone recomend a good QUIET running engine fan for my 5.0L?The one currently installed and i assume is stock is noisier than the exhaust and sounds awful....its not the pulleys just the whirry wind noise from the blades under acceleration.Electric fan may be an option i s'pose but would want it to run quiet. Its an all stock engine to btw.

Gotta know what you have now so we have a frame of reference. For instance, a metal fan blade and HD clutch (or locked-up stock clutch) will be noisy.

My car was doing the same thing (loud groaning/whining wind noise) and the problem was solved by changing the fan's clutch. My clutch was so bad before changing that you could wrap your hand in a thick layer of rags and easily slow down and actually stop the fan dead while the car was fully warmed up and idling.

Despite the shot clutch, the car still ran cool enough. I became aware of the problem because my aircond wasn't keeping up, and the increased cooling demands of the aircond were enough to bring the problem to light.

It didn't make sense to me how the weaker clutch could lead to MORE noise, but it did.

There's an excellent chance this could be your problem.

To diagnose, there is a way on the clutch itself to lock it solid and eliminate any slippage (this is there in case the clutch completely fails and you need to lock it up temporarily until you can get it fixed). Try locking your fan clutch and take the car for a spin. If the stupid noise is gone buy yourself a new clutch for your fan.

Good luck!

n/t

ok cool will check that, and as far as i know it is the original factory installed fan , i havent paid it much attention to say what it is exaclty, im gonna just replace it regardless. Thanks for the feedback from yas.Ill hit the local parts store and see what they got.Was just curious as to a particular brand that may be best app for quiet running. Its so embarrassing when i take off from stop and the engine fan noise makes more whirring raaaring sounds than the dang exhaust lol.I removed the AC put in Ford racing PS pump delete kit, new belt, new ps pump, new alternator, new tensioner pulley, it still has original smog pump ( i need it for emissions here) but doesnt seem to be making the noise.

some people install the Heavy duty fan clutch on the mustangs when there isnt a real need for them. They usually make more noise than a stock one.

+1 fan clutch failure.

With engine off, try to spin it. If it's stiff and hard to spin, replace it
