I just bought an 02 Sonic Blue S81 SC, it has 17,800 miles and the 13 inch Brembo brake upgrade. The brakes squeak at random times, they work fine but are just noisy. The brake pedal is also stiff. This is my first car with a big brake kit, is this normal or should I replace the pads?

What pads are supposed to be used?

Thanks guys, great forum!!!

its a win/lose situation, more or less

ceramic pads are quiet, but there is no metal, thus no noise...however they dont stop nearly as well. Metal on Metal = stopping, thus the more metallic a pad is, the more it'll make noise. The saleens make noise with the big brake kit, and the 03/04 cobra make noise, Hawk Pads make noise, it goes on and on.

If you want to quiet them down, find a ceramic pad (which im unsure if they make for a big brake kit b/c the idea behind them is big time stopping), other then that you'll basically have to deal.

Well if your not concerned with losing some stopping power, Im sure hawk or brembo makes a ceramic pad, or a quieter then stock pad. Perhaps your pads are just worn out? I drove a 6 piston wilwood mustang that was nasty at breaking and it didnt make a sound, but I cant say I was in it long enough to see if it ever started.

The Brembo pads are noisy as hell. I had Joe at Chicane put on Hawk pads and it cured the noise problem. You will get some noise on occasion with the Hawk pads but its not so iiratating like the Brembo pads.

The pads were $100.00. This was about 4 years ago. It was worth it the Hawk pads grab better and are alot more quiet.
