Noisy valvetrain...

I'm using the high quality fel-pro gaskets for my long tube hooker headers. I've felt around before and have not felt a leak. I'm just starting to assume this is the way the motor sounds the way it is set-up... The motor has awesome power, no hesitation, fires up the first time every time, and oil pressure is 75-85 lbs. at idle. I'm the only one with a Ford motor at my shop too, everyone else has small black chevys . the chevys sound smooth with a mild cam and roller rockers. I just dont want to wipe my cam out!!

That is a tough one. I would take the headers lose, and check for a burn mark on the gaskets, see if you tell from a blown out spot. Did you take any pictures of the wear marks across the valve stem the last time you had it open?

I did not... The wear pattern looked normal on the valve stem after using the sharpie trick though. I am certain the headers are not leaking but will check one more time. After that I will have my buddy from the machine shop come back to adjust the valve lash one last time

As long as the wear pattern was narrow, close to the center of the valve stem, you should be OK. I used stock length pushrods when I put my performer RPM cam in my 68, and ruined it soon afterwards. Installed height on the springs, spring rate, pushrod length, all that stuff I had to learn the hard way. I have thread on here right now, about "WTF is this noise"! after I did a head swap on that same 68...I guess if it was easy, everybody would do it...

I havent had time to mess with the motor, life can be so hectic! I was discussing my motor with an older Ford guy and he mentioned there was a difference in pistons for a 2V and 4V motor?? he said it might sound like the valve is knicking the valve relieve on the piston.... I figured my motor would sound like it was coming apart if the valve was hitting the piston....

Did you put new pistons in the motor, with an overbore? Or just do the heads cam and intake?
If you had any contact, I think it would make a pretty loud noise, definately would know something was wrong. I broke a roller rocker on the ealier mentioned 68 with VT issues, THAT was a noise!

Yeah, my 351C is bored .030 over with TRW pistons. The noise is more annoying than an "oh !" noise... exactly like an industrial sewing machine. I just got another valve cover to cut the top off of to put on the motor, that way I can adjust the valves with the motor running... I'm thinking that the double valve springs are too stiff and are either bleeding out the lifter or smacking the valve closed.

You could also remove the fan belt and run it for a minute, with no turbulence you could blow smoke on it and tell really quick... Just an idea.

I can't do it that way, I have a triple core aluminium radiator with a 16" electric fan on a thermostat. Here is a video I think would help all of us here.

shouldn't there be oil spraying everywhere? that looks awful clean....

From here, it sounds/ looks like you didn't sink down the poly locks? I mean, the poly locks may be tightened, but there are a couple of the lock nuts that look like they are right on the edge of coming out....

The poly locks are sunk in and locked down, probably just the angle/lighting of the video. There is also a little pool of oil on top of every poly lock from running. I turned down the idle so oil didnt splash everywhere, think i was at about a 900 idle.

i have had 2 351 cleavelands that clatered no mater what we tried, dissasembled them both and could find nothing wrong with either. one with the exact cam as your running and the other with a crane cam ,replaced the lifters in both motors with no
fix we did notice a fluctuation in oil presure the machine shop said it was most likly
an internal oil leak not alowing the lifters to properly work,after tearing both motors
down replacing cam bearings and checking all the galley plugs they still clattered

After watching your vid clip, I don't think you have the proper preload on your lifters.
Yes you will have some noise from the rockers but, Yours are much more than mine and I am running a solid lifter cam with .022 gap.
