I know it's not a Pony, but one of us needs some info (and it's me, the old geezer!) So please pardon my asking, but you guys have always come through.

My daughter's car, a 1994 Honda Civic SE, VTech w/4-wheel disc ABS has finally wiped out the rear brakes in over 340,000 miles (Yes, accurate!). New rotors & pads time. My question is the rear calipers and retracting the piston. Can it just be pushed back in, or does it need to be twisted back in like the Wretched Taurus rear calipers:bang:  :notnice: . If someone can provide me the correct method, I'll be VERY appreciative.

Many Thanks!:hail2: :hail2:

btw...they just push back in, but can be difficult...best thing to do is get like a 1x4 and put it in between the caliper and push the brake pedal to mash em down on the 1x4...this will push the caliper back up inside the unit...then try and fit on of the break pads in there and repeat until the caliper is all the way back in.

goto Autozone and rent a caliper compressing tool. I bought one from them to use on my '99 GT, and it's universal so anyone in my family can use it on their veh (yes... even the Pontiac Trans Am :D) It turns, but even if the caliper doesn't need to turn it'll still push it in. Takes only 1 min to get it done

I just looked it up in AllData. The caliper threads back in so the old C-clap trick provably wont work. Don't bother using that stupid piece of crap 10 dollar square that plugs into a socket wrench. It is JUNK. AutoZone will rent you the nicer tool for free (deposit of course). I purchased a Bluepoint one off of ebay for 90 bux shipped to my door. This is a tool worth having if you have those stupid "modern" self adjusting calipers. IMO, they are crap and they do not perform as good but a lot of people argue with me on that.

This is the one I got:

Done!

Found my tool I got for the old Taurus, and the piston easilly twisted back in. Had to lube the boots first so they woruld not twist. Both re-set fine.

Man, I think one rotor is still original! Not even worthy of a door-stop.

Many, many thanks for all your help!

Dan

PS - Were the stooges all related then?

I bought a KD tool for doing my Isuzu Amigo rear brakes and it didn't fit, so I made one. I had a 1/2" drive flat blade screwdriver socket that I had gotten years ago and had never used. I ground that off on the bench grinder and then used my 4" grinder and a dremel to make a couple notches in the sides. I then used a couple pieces of 3/16" solid rod and rounded the ends to fit in my notches and welded them in. Used a flat file to fine tune the ends of the tool and viola!!!
