I have done alot of reasearch before doing my rear disc conversion on my 1990 GT. I have fox length Moser axles and purchased the North Race Cars SN95 disc conversion bracket and cable set. I just got around to painting and installing them last night and have an ISSUE Im not happy with that Ive already called NRC and discussed. With theyre kit installed the outer face of the rotor is about 1/16" away from touching the bracket, and the inner side has almost 1/2" of clearence. They claim this is normal in theyre instructions and that it is fine as long as they dont touch the rotor. I told them yes it may work but what happens when the inner pad gets worn half way down and comes out of the caliper bracket without warning..... .....They said "thats why we include washers to shim to the proper length"....I told them if I wanted to "RIG" it to work I would have used the stock 94-95 brackets and cut them to fit then shimmed them. I dont want 2 1" round surfaces supporting the entire load and force of brake pressure. They said "we do it all the time and it works okay." I stated I payed $230 for perfection and it is not, and if I wanted washers and other **** I would have made my own. They claimed "you have all we offer and we cant help you, it might be out farther because you have 4.10 gears." WTF MAN...... F**K THOSE *******S.....THEY MAKE A HALF WAY DECENT ITEM AND CHARGE A PREMIUM AND THEN TELL YOU TO GET BENT WHEN YOU HAVE AN ISSUE.

Did you noticed the same crazy uneven gap that I am speaking of? What type of axles are you running? What gear? If you do have the same wild gap how have the pads worn?

I believe to get mine centered properly i had to add a couple extra washers for shims.
Haven't had an issues related to reliability.
Didn't really bother me all that much.

I don't think gears would have anything to do with this.

i've run em as well. I never had a issue at all. I guess due to slight differences they can't make it fit erveryones car perfect therefore is why they say to shim it.

Good luck.
There a popular piece so I wouldnt think you will have a problem using washers as specified.

I have been running mine for 2 years, well, about 5,000 miles. I have not noticed an uneven gap and have not had any problems.

Well I thought about the same thing, and thats what they said about why they include washers in theyre kit. Im sure it will work but there is not an equal amount of pressure being supplied to the 2 1" round washer surface contact as there would be a solid piece of steel. Im going to make my own shims tonight, Im just pissed they ask a high price and its not perfect.

I run the brackets on my car. I've had them on there for over 2 years I daily drive my car. I did not notice that the pad and rotor were offset from one another at the time of installation so they are on there without any washers. I haven't examined the setup since the install. This weekend I was planning to install my fresh anti moan brackets I’ll let you know if my pads have been wearing out unevenly.
BTW, I asked them if I was going to need the anti moan brackets... they said I wouldn't ... thing moan like a mug...

Technically it doesn't matter how much surface area you put in contact with the bracket, the major stress point is going to be the bolt. It's going to be in shear and that particular Grade 8 bolt is overkill for the forces generated on it. I beleive i heard it was a safety factor of 4 with some discussions with a Ford engineer i had on the Corral a couple years back. Usually parts are designed minimum 2X, sometimes 3X. One washer isn't going to really lower the rating much as the bolt bolt will be in compression and the bottom bolt will be in tension with shear forces acting on them as well. Those two bolts are pretty beefy.

As long as there is ZERO gap betwen the brackets, washers (quality steel washers) and caliper bracket, you will be fairly safe. I wouldn't go and put 3 or 4 washers on however. Also, the tighter fit the washers are to the bolt's shaft...the better. A close machined spacer would be better.

Also, the caliper bracket (the u-shaped bracket the pads sit in) does not need to be centered on the rotor. It can be offset. The caliper is designed to slide on the caliper pins and self center itself. As the pads wear, the caliper will shift and wear will be even. It should only be an issue if you let the rear brakes go all the way down to the backing plates. Then you may notice the caliper may be offset slightly more than normal.

Your going to need anti-moan brackets. Forsure!!

I also am using the brackets and just installed them this past winter.
I did the shim route also. I am kind of picky about things, so I wanted them centered to the rotor. So I took the washers and ground them down(on a surface grinder) to the appropriate thickness to get them centered.

Screw it, I just ended up using some of the supplied washers. From what you guys say it sounds just fine. As far as the anti-moan brackets go, can I use the 1994 GT brackets on the back of my fox? I remember reading something about modifying them to fit

shut up and run the brackets. if you are that concerned about it, take the piece to a CNC place and have them copy it, but make it thicker.

It seems like you may have gotten into the wrong hobby. NOTHING ever fits perfect.

all my stuff bolted right up no problem, just wish i wouldnt have taken their advice and gotten the anti moan brackets anyway.

Your rear brakes don't really see an amazing amount of loading either. If it was for front brakes, there is no way I would be shimming out brackets with multiple washers, but on the rear...ehh...It'll be fine. That is kind of messed up that they're not designed to be on center without washers...Then again, tolerance stack-up between axles, housings, brackets, etc. will tend to leave things a little sloppy...

Watch your mouth and tone of voice bro...I mentioned I decided to run them and making it work was not an issue after I slept on it. I was just initially ticked off becuase I wasnt told I had to shim them at all, and I could have made the same thing at no cost with my plasma and mig.

well maybe i was a bit harsh, sorry...but you can't expect everything to fit like it should. these guys obviously know what they're doing, otherwise they'd be out of business, most likely from multiple lawsuits.

my apologies.
