My friend have a ford probe, and 1 week ago, the car started to make some strange noise, like "tratratratra..."(you know what I mean) etc etc, and it dies at a red light.. and it won't start anymore...

When we turn the key to start it like usually.. it will only make a loud "TINC!", but the engine won't turn.. or try to..

It's the V6 model..

My guess was the
starter..

What do you think it could be?

Any help will be appreciated!
ThanKs!

If any info is missing.. please ask!

Sounds to me like the engine overheated to the point the oil broke down, the motor is seized, and you are destroying the starter gear against the now immobile(frozen) flywheel.
If that is the case the Probe is dead...

Well, if it makes a loud "tinc" when you turn the key, then the starter is probably not turning over the seized flywheel. That's how my Mustang was and I went out and bought a brand new mini-starter and it started right up!

What can I do to test if it's seized?

Put it in Overdrive or reverse (auto) and push it?

I can't really think of anything to do other than completely figure out what's wrong with it and have it looked at.

put car in neutral, get a socket for the crank pulley a big breaker bar and see if you can crank it by hand. no spin = seized motor... obviously
