I'm putting a new suspension in my '70, and I'm not sure how to install the swaybar bushings. Rather than wreck them trying to force them on, I thought I'd ask the experts here. I tried a search and didn't find any old threads.

It's the bushing that mounts to the front subframe. The bushing has a cut in it. I'm supposed to use a large screwdriver to force the cut open and then slide it over the swaybar. However, the bushing is quite stiff, and I'm not sure I'll be able to force it on.

I considered trying to force it onto the end of the swaybar and slide it down to the mounting point. However, I'm not sure if I'll damage it doing that. Any advice?

my bushings were cut on one side, so you could pry them open enough to get them over the bar. Once they are on the bar, they are held in place by a form fitting bracket which clamps them down.

I don't think cutting the bushings will compromise the performance that much.

My Addco bushings were split. Just open em up and put em on there. No sliding required.
Mine have a cut in them as well. However, they are quite stiff. I'm not going to be able to open the cut enough to put them right onto the bar. I will have to slide them on. Between sliding and a little white lithium grease, it should go fine.

I'll know tonight. :)
