Alright so I'm in the middle of doing the Pi intake swap. Ive noticed that the intake runners dont match up. Well Ive been calling the guys from HPS for some adapters and they are out of stock and have been that way for a while. So my question is what about opening up the intake runners with my porting drill. Has anyone done this? Is it a bad idea? I just dont like the fact that with my new PI intake and the added air flow being slowed down because of the mismatch. Thoughts?

Just spread a little RVT Silicone around the ports and water passages and call it a day. You could transition your NPI port openings to match the PI intake if you wish (every little bit helps), but it's not mandatory for good performance.

Yes, that was exactly what Im talking about. Is the runner alignment that big of a deal? How much power am I leaving on the table by opening up the intake ports on the heads or using adapters? Or is it not that big of an issure?

You're not leaving a huge amount on the table.....3-4hp with a N/A engine at the most. The advantage of the PI heads isn't necessarily the larger intake ports alone, but the combination of the larger ports, revised combustion chamber and PI specific intake and exhaust valves, that when used in conjunction with one and other provide better low speed mixture and less shrouding around the intake valve. Guys going with nothing put PI cams and intake on their Non-PI engines are coming within 5-10hp of the '99-'04 PI engines

You could clean up the edges if you wish.....there's lots of material there to work with, but like I said, it's not manditory for good performance.
