number 8 tranny is toast now

If you want to stay with a stick, a G Force T5 would be my choice. I'd second the C4 vote. I think I'll be converting by summer, maybe sooner. The new TKO would require a new bell (I have one) a new clutch disk, and a new yoke. The crossmember can be modified by grinding, sliding and rewelding.

not to derail the thread, but what all is involved in the c4 swap? I have no need for overdrive so I think I'll be selling the aod to fund the c4.

If you get the TKO500 with the 10 spline imputshaft than you don't need a new clutch, otherwise you do.

you can use a bell from an SROD as well if you don't need a scattershield

you need a diffrent shifter too

the TKO500 and 600 come with a good shifter, just need a handle.

The c4 swap is pretty easy too, not a whole lot different than a 5-speed swap really, and much quicker and more consistent if you can live w/o the overdrive.

I will say that the T-56 is a much smoother shifting tranny than the TKO, much lower shifter effort, but I suspect that the TKO would just take a little more getting used to.

What mods have you done to the rear suspention? I don't have any wheel hop and all I have done is add poly bushings and good shocks.

Dan

I got a totaly new rear. Everything is new inside, boxed control arms top and bottom, poly bushings, springs, but shocks have never been replaced. This car has had wheel hop bad from day 1. Even with all the old stuff and when it had a 4 banger it wheel hoped like mad!!! and it still does. :bang:

what brand of lca's are they and how old? If you havent replaced the shocks, I'd bet money if you threw some fresh ones on there you'd see an improvement.

# 8?????????? man i thought i was bad going threw 4? Oh well bang for the buck gforce! When i had my last t-5 built for the 95 it was basically a gforce just not there name or parts but equal to them! Usually they blow out 3rd, never really heard of blowing out 2nd? As far as a tremac? i have the 3550 and i do but dont like it. Or maybe it's the center force clutch? or it could just be me? I'm a full sec off the previous owners times and i am constantly missing 2nd at the track! peace

I don't want to sound like a new'b, what is lca's??? everything in the rear is maybe 6 months old and maybe 5k on it.

Back to the shock thing, I was always thinking they would make a difference, just wanted to save for some good Bilsteins. It has a 2 inch drop all the way around too.

your wheel hop issue is likely a combination of things. Do you have good upper agnd lower control arms in the rear? you should also check the torque boxes for damage. If all the above is ok then try an air bag in the right rear spring. As far as trannys go I have raced a tko for years and never broken it...good luck

lca is the lower controll arm :D I'd start with the shocks, assuming all the bushings are fine, and like previously mentioned theres no torque box cracks, the shocks should help alot if there still stockers, since they usually blow out or wear out at around 40-50k miles.
