A friend recently bought a old race car shop. They moved down south. There is a 351 block left behind and was trying to decode the numbers. They are D2AECA ,2J30 Could anyone tell what the block is out of? Thanks

Now you just have to figure if it’s a Windsor or Cleveland style block. Are there two or four bolt mains on it? I’m not sure if a Cleveland had the four bolts that late.

I found this,

The D2AE-CA block was used as a service replacement for the '71 Boss 351, and for the '72-'74 351 CJ. The differnces are in the pistons used along with the camshafts. The Boss also had specially selected and treated cranks and connecting rods and high strength rod bolts.

:nice:

Those numbers only tell you what year and vehicle line the block was originally designed for. The "2J30" is the date code. Cast on (J)Sept. 30th 1972. No way to tell what particular vehicle it was put into at the factory (if it ever was) I can tell you it was never used in pickups or vans. Ford or Mercury cars only.

It was DESIGNED for the 69 model year ( C=1960, 9=9th year of the 60's decade) "O" means it was designed for the mid size car line at Ford ( fairlane, torino, falcon) "E" it's an engine part. 6015= engine block part #, B2= means its several revisions away from the original part.

I don't know how many times it was revised. Usually a revision was something to improve the part. Sometimes not. The date code will tell you the date and year it was cast. A C9OE block could have been cast 4 or more years after the block was designed. Ford would have used this prefix till they decided to completely redesign the block (or anyother part) and give it a new casting number.

I have a D2AE-CA cleveland block in my garage. It came out of a '73 Montego. I have no idea whether it was the original engine - IMO it probably was. Mine is set up for 2 bolt mains, although my understanding is that the same casting can also be a 4 bolt main and/or you can also convert from 2 to 4 bolts yourself if you want.

Im looking For aBlock for my 69 mustang.Orig 351 car.It may be a good block for me to use. There is a set of heads there to.What numbers would I be looking for on the heads? Looked on them some but didnt See any. They had some big exhaust Ports. Thanksfor the help.
