Nuts and Bolts question.

I've been putting a few posts on here about my unfinished project '66 and you've all been most helpful. The main problem I have is that the guy who stripped the car before I bought it threw away all the nuts and bolts that hold it together. D*ckhead. That means I don't have a pattern for the replacements.

Sure, I could get one of those fancy kits of all the fastners from NPD or the like, but have you seen the prices?

Anyone out there know what all the sizes are, or know where I can get the info?

I'm looking for everything from the engine mount nuts to windscreen (oops - windshield) wiper wheelbox bolts.

If you'll list exactly what nuts/bolts you need sizes for, most everyone here will be glad to help. For instance, the motor mount bolts are 7/16NC x 1 inch long ( these are the bolts that go into the engine block thru the mounts. As for the bolts that hold the fenders on the car, I have lots of these, I'd be glad to send you if you just pay the shipping. Many other bolts too ( I don't throw away anything LOL)

OK, thanks. A few to start off with...

Engine mount to chassis - nuts are missing, what should I look for? Is there some kind of shakeproof washer required too?

Wiper to cowl - pain in the arse under dash, three per side - what size bolt required?

Instrument binnacle to dash - looks like a thread forming type screw required here, what size and length?

Nuts on the rear of ammeter gauge (and others) - connect the wiring to the terminals, I guess these will be half nuts? What size?

That'll do for now, solve those babies and it'll keep me busy for a few weeks.

The nuts on the rear of the gauges are 3/16, but I'm not sure of the thread, probaly only two thread counts on that size, it should be the coarser one. Motor mounts to the chassis is probably 3/8" diameter x 16 thread count, can't tell you the length. For the instrument panel those were usually countersunk phillips head screws (similar to wood screws) there was a thin metal clip inserts they screwed into. Hope this helps, me being halfway around the world and all. Also been awhile since I took one apart.

One more thingI know you probably won't want to hear over there, but as far as I know , none of the fasteners used in the early Stangs ( and all other Fords up thru the late 70's) were metric, all are US std thread SAE NC (National Coarse) or SAE NF ( National Fine)

OK here you go

Frame bracket to chassis nuts are a flanged pinch nut, in a pinch you could use a lock washer and a nylon lock nut, there are 3/8 16 threads per inch

Wiper to cowl 1/4 bolts 20 threads per inch, 3/4 long, they have a lock washer on them

Insturment cluster to dash I counted six, 4 up top and 2 on the bottom
The 4 on top actually have flat heads and are painted black, they are a number 8 size self tapping screw 1 " long. The 2 lower have counter sunk heads are also size 8 and are 3/4 " long, these have a chrome finish.

Gauge threads, got me there, you are correct they are the flat stamped half nuts. I tried to thread a #10 size nut on the stud but it did not start easily. I tried the nut in both a 24 and 32 thread per inch and neither worked.

D.Hearne, I might be over here in Europe, but it was only in the 70's that we really started along the route to Metrication, there's still plenty of UNC and UNF fastners available here (as long as you speak to a guy who is 40+ at the trade counter... ). I used to run a 1966 Humber Super Snipe (Old British car) and that had British Standard Whitworth fastners on it - now they were hard to find.

Better yet, you could buy the fancy kit or the individual fasteners from the same company NPD gets them from AMK Products. Since you're having a hard time identifying specific fasteners, you might like AMK's Ford Fastener Guide.
