O/R X-pipe bad for engines?

Hey all,

I'm reading these posts about people loosing gas mileage, running rich, etc after installing O/R pipes. I too have an off road pipe now and am concerned that I'm possibly hurting my engine by running rich? I'm assuming running rich is bad for an engine?! If this is the case, what the heck are people doing getting these pipes?

Running a little rich won't hurt you engine, it may decrease your gas mileage and a little power but other than that it's fine....

Running too lean can hurt your engine though...

well, I'd like to know why so many of us are doing this if it decreases our gas mileage and takes power? Someone?

read up a little more...no one I know lost power by going to an o/r midpipe

It is most likely that they got an O/R pipe and DIDN'T get the o2 problem fixed either via a simulator or a chip.....

Then the car can't compensate correctly, and the A/F ratio is ALL messed up. When done correctly, they can actually improve MPG's and power

I assume mil eliminators help? Or do I need to get a "tune"?

I didn't imply that the pipe makes you lose power, I was saying that running too rich robs you of some power....

The front O2 sensors are the ones that tell the ECU how rich/lean the engine is running. The rear O2's are only there to read the air after the converters to see if they are doing their job. When you install the O/R pipe the rear O2's read the same air that the fronts do, so they think that the cats aren't working and the turn on the MIL. If you don't install the MIL eliminators the light will come on but it willnot affect the way the engine runs, it's just telling you the cats aren't working.

You don't need to get a tune when just installing an O/R pipe.

Offroad pipes will not effect lean/richness of the engine.

On a side note, running too rich can foul your spark plugs along with F up your 02 sensors. But leave the worrying to the boosted guys.

Gained 18rwhp/26rwtq with an O/R H. Put the MIL Elims in and you should be good to go.
