O5 GT wheel hop?

I had been hearing that the 05's are experiencing wheel hop. If I'm not mistaken, it usually happens at the track. Can any GT owner (who have run his GT at the track) tell me if this is true or just BS?

i can only tell you that from what i have heard and seen that there is no hop and they hook like no other!!!

they wheelhop during the burnout, but not when you launch.

Bryan have you experienced any wheel hop on the streets or just during the burnout at the track?

By the way . . . congrats in your impressive 1/4 ET(13.3)!

I've had wheel hop at launch-dumping the clutch and easing into release. Standing burnout-no problem. I will be researching as to the best way to eliminate this.

Steeda has an adjustable 3rd link I forget the proper name it is located above the rear diff. With this you can adjust the pinion angle for better drag launches.

You hook because Ford official position is NO BURNOUTS. Wheel hop? Remove torque management and add a few Pauls HP components.

Haven't been to the track yet, but on the street I have not had a hint of wheel hop in my auto. That includes starting with a powerbrake, then continuing the smokeshow for the next 30ft. And yes, they do hook like no other factory stang I have ever driven.
Also, the smokeshow was on X-mas eve, in the back 40 of an industrial complex parking lot, with no one in sight, not at a stop light, or a gas station or in the mall parking lot.

Mopar guy I know test drove a GT--took a 5 speed out and drove it pretty hard. That was his main comment--cool car, but a lot of wheel hop. And this is a guy who is used to driving big HP 60s Mopars. Surprised me cause I hadn't heard it here before.

Oh yeah, it is a bit tricky to get the wheels spinning even with the TCS off, because of that electronic throttle , but it can be done and once she's goin, boy howdy it will melt the tires clean off

My opinion, from driving my car, is that Ford tuned the axle-hop out of the car in many conditions, but couldn't tune them out of all.

If your launch style hits the anti-sweet-spot, it hops pretty easily. That would be a combination of grip, power application, etc. that gets it hopping. One day this happened to me a bunch of times. I've been driving MORE aggressively since, and it hasn't happened much at all.

Ford got a lot of kudos for nearly eliminating wheel hop, yet a bunch of us have discovered that it isn't gone. It's just tuned out of a bunch of the driving spectrum.

Note that when you tune the 3rd link (via aftermarket parts) to do more anti-squat (to prevent axle-hop), you'll change the characteristics of the car in other ways as well (like power-on at speed). There isn't a "right" tune for the car in all conditions, you'll be moving the sweet-spot around in a spectrum of settings, looking for the one that fits your needs best (drivability, drag racing, road racing, etc.)

I am surprised that the 05 has any wheel hop at all. I've had five Fox/SN95 Mustangs with live axles, none of which *ever* hopped.

I'm sure you have, just haven't noticed it. Try some lower control arms and you'll notice a difference.

Yup.

A Heim-joint adjustable upper link on the pinion (Differential housing, near the front) and a (+) 2.5 degree pinon angle. Of couse, the HP control arms and coilovers help too (Paul removes the stock coils).

Most of my Mustangs were not stock, including the suspension . The only two Mustangs I have ever had with any wheel hop are IRS Cobras. But I expect an IRS to hop a little, even in the best conditions. If the new live axle setup does indeed hop, Ford did something wrong...
