Odometer

Is there any way to turn the odometer back to zero again? I am putting a brand new motor in the car and would like to get the odometer to zero. I have the mileage exempt thing on my title. I know that i can buy a new gauge cluster but rather not if i can get around it.

To my knowledge there is no way without some really special tools that i doubt can be found very easily. Here at my shop we sent them to Lauderdale speedometer and they repair them ,but they are very cautious and will not adjust readings unless two clusters are sent and then they will match if one is broken. I have heard of people spining the speedometer with a dremel but this i have tried myself and would take forever and cost you several dremel tools.

Im thinking about useing a drill on the end of the tranny speedo cable cause the motor and tranny are out till this coming week when the new one goes in. I think if i just make it go forward till it turns back to zero it should work. Probaly gona take a while tho.

I actually think it is not legal to tamper with your Odometer at all! Your best bet would just be to keep a log book and put down the mileage of your install, as the vehicle itself still has the miles on it.

that was what i was thinking, but i would use a pnumatic die-grinder(with out wheel of-coarse) that spins alot faster that most drills

I have a air tool that spins im thinking about useing that pretty sure it will turn faster then the drill. Im gona try it tommorow.

be careful not to spin too fast, because you might break your speedometer

I pulled the instrument cluster out of my car and took the odemeter apart and then put it back at zero. I tried using a drill at first but it was taking too long. It was kinda a pain to put it back together thats why I just left my new odometer where its at when I upgraded to a 140mph cluster.

A 165K car with a new engine is still a 165K mile car ... why mess with it ... all sounds silly to me.

Especially the possible "new" owner (a fellow Stanger) that may be conned into thinking the car has 108K or whatever is accumulated.

I know that the car is still gona have that many miles on it. But even thoes miles arent correct cause the last owner put in differnt gears but didnt but in a different tranny gear so it showed you going faster then you were actually going. I just want it back to zero cause of the new engine. Im gona try the air tool but not go too fast with it like stated above.
