My car is up in the air so I thought I would buy an off road setup. Should I get an H or X what is the best and cheapest whay to go I am just going from the stock manifolds to the mids, not the whole thing. Thanks Scott

Depends. Exhaust sound is subjective. I prefer the sound of an X-pipe over an H-pipe personally. Additionally, the type of mufflers you plan to run need to match the mid-pipe. Some combo's sound like ass. What type of cat-back are you currently running?

Like UM stated. Exhaust is a lot on personal choice.

you should consider a pro chamber also. they sound great with my stingers and a mac catback. but fitment can be a bit iffy.

X make more power but some ppl dont like how they sound.

look for some sound clips and see which you prefer. i like the sound of an uncatted x.

I hated the sound of off-road X pipes on my GT, i prefer the low end musclecar like sound a H-pipe gives.

I had a Bassani Catted X and Bassani catback when i first had my cobra, it was nice, but when i purchased it back the guy installed the stock H to pass smog, and after hearing it i told him to leave it on, i liked the sound alot better. key word being "I".

its all subjective. Buy one, if you dont like it, sell it off and take a 40$ hit or whatveer and try the other. Right now i have a Mac o/r X in my attic, i might see about having a buddy make the midpipe piece (the X part) into a H pipe, either by using the one i have now and just modifying it or just using it as a template and making it so i could theoretically change between H and X at will.

Simple formula..

low revving GT........ H pipe (more low end torque)

high revving Cobra...X pipe (more high end pull)

At the same time, for sheer cost, a Mac h pipe is about as cheap as it gets, but there may be some fitment issues.

Personally I am an HPipe fan. To me most x pipes sound like what I would imagine a V8 honda to sound like.

That's funny... an H-pipe with Flowmasters always sounded like an old pick-up truck to me.

My brother has a o/r Mac prochamber with a Magnaflow catback on his 99 cobra, and his sounds really nice and "tuned", but it's not all that loud. I have a o/r x and flowmasters and mine is WAY louder and sounds really pissed. The way mine sounds is deff. not for everyone as my neighbors would tell you. In short, his sounds really good, mine sounds really angry.

I have the Magnaflow catted X-pipe and the Magnaflow Cat-back. I like this combo because from idle to about 2000RPM's it's very neighborhood friendly. Once you stick your foot into it she barks pretty good. I have short audio clip you can listen to here:

Yep. I am getting a catted H Pipe, so I am hoping that I can keep the sound down a little with that. I know O/R would be just way to loud.

The thing is I LOVE the sound of the car now. So I am really scared to change it, but I want the extra HP from the LT's and H Pipe.

I am going to get gears first though. I have a month to think about it since the military is ssending me to Egypt Saturday.
