Does anyone have the letter from tremec so that I can show my dealer the new parts proof from tremec and the correct amount to fill the tranny with fluid? If so please PM me or email it to me. My dealer won't fix it without this. I can't just give them the part numbers alone cause they won't believe me. Thanks
Well, it's been 2 weeks since the new tranny has been installed and even with the fluid at 3.2L it's still somewhat notchy.
Without calling Ford or Tremec is there a website or some other location that I could verify that my new tranny is indeed a newer updated model 3650 as per what Ford told me. I guess I'm looking for the build date.
I have both serial numbers from the old and new tranny.

Well, all the parts were ordered and will be here today. They said they would tear out the tranny today, then replace on Monday. My dealer also looked shocked. He said they are use to the Mustang transmissions being notchy and clunky feeling. I told him that is because they are all messed up and it took Tremec this long to come out with a solution! Anyhow, my dealer has been very helpful with the situation! They also were able to adjust my fender on the passenger side! So now all items that my car was in for are all going to be fixed! The replacement front fender stripe will be there this morning...

Yup. I called Tremec myself a few weeks ago and they recommended 4 quarts (but don't overfill; if it's coming out of the fill hole, it's full) of Mercon ATF (Dextron III I think) or if you want to use a sythetic, go for the Mobil One ATF.
So much for lowering the fluid level. I still may drain/refill the tranny this spring, but I doubt I'll go with the lower fluid level since Tremec recommends 4 quarts.
I picked up my new Mach1 today. While doing everything else that goes with getting out the door, I had the saleman introduce me to the Service Manager. I had a nice conversation with him about the 3650 and the posting here on this forum. I said my new car (which I had just driven) did not have any grind or clunkyness into 2nd or 3rd and if it started I'd like to think he would take care of it without questions. He responded this way:
1) Grinding or clunking into 2nd gear is NOT normal.
2) They have had no problems so far with these transmissions in 2004's (I didn't ask about earlier years as I haven't seen anyone with a 2004 post here).
3) If it starts to grind or clunk they will fix it, period.
Yeah, I know it's a dealer talking, but I still feel better that I had this conversation and my sales person was present. Here's hoping the 2004 models have the updated parts and I won't have to deal with some of the issues some of the posters here have had to. This place has a lot of great information and I'm glad my salesman turned me on to it!
Meantime, I installed my Tri-ax shifter when I got home and went for a nice drive!
