Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

Well drop my 02 off this morning and explained the problem, the check in guy said he has never heard of this type of problem so I asked him if he was new, he said it sounded like a clutch problem which is not covered by the warranty. I am waiting for his call to explain his BS I am printing every thing I can find so I can go back in there with some ammo to back up the problem with. It seems like we will need an act of God to get Ford to admit that there is a problem.

The clutch isn't covered under the 3/36 factory warranty? That's kinda lame. :notnice:

If any of you want to get rid of the jerky shifting, just ask your Ford dealer to adjust the clutch pedal per SSM 16067. This they will fix, since this is a fix Ford has authorized. I am very pleased with what they did to the clutch. It shifts a lot better minus the cold notchiness. If only we could get THAT fixed. :rolleyes:

Excellent!! I got kinda spoiled on my 93 Z28 w/hydraulic clutch. Nice easy shifting regardless of how you do it. The jerkiness of this one has been pissing me off quite a bit. Granny shifting is horrible. The only time it shifts smooth is when you step into it and shift hard and fast. I'm taking my car to the dealer on tue for some random stuff. I'll have them fix this as well. Thanks for the heads up :)

How will this affect performance aspects of shifting. Will it cause any adverse characteristics. Things are usually a trade off ya know.
 
My big question, what about the guys that are out of warranty. This is for sure a major factory defect. i have 42,000 on mine and has been doing it for well over 15,000. i took the car in before warranty was up, and got all the same responses. if they will not cover the fix. i am done with the mustang. i will trade it in faster then a jack rabbit on asphalt in 150 degree weather.

I think there is actually less clutch travel now. It sure has a different feel to it, but after getting used to it, the car shifts much more smoothly now. I am glad they did this. I didn't ask them to. I was only complaining about the notchiness and ended up fixing something I didn't think they could fix. To answer your question, there is no adverse characteristics. Quite the opposite.

I just wanted to send you guys a big THANK YOU, I presented my dealer with all the info off of this tread they made a few calls and told me they realize there are some issues with this trans. They called me this afternoon and told me that they are ordering me a new one, (lets hope this one works) so again Thanks to all of you.... :spot: :hail2:

Grinds and shifts hard when it's cold
Adjust clutch pedal per SSM 16067 & test drive trans shifts
as well as syncronizer & blocking ring design will allow.

I know that isn't really what you wanted, but that's all the information I have.
For those of you that don't know, SSM stands for "Special Service Message"
 
I just got a call from the service manager at my Ford dealership and he said the regional manager (I think that was his title) said that they are aware of the problem with the transmission and know of the new parts but recommended waiting until the TSB comes out which should be within a month before asking that it be fixed. (!) He said we could go ahead and put the new parts in that they do have right now, but if it don't fix the problem completely they won't try to re-fix the transmission later when the TSB is out. He said there may be more parts coming in, and it would be best to wait until they know for sure that they have all the parts necessary to fix the problem. When they do, then the TSB will be issued. The service manager is going to call as soon as the TSB comes out. If I find out that a TSB is out, I will let everyone know.
 
brianmef, good luck but it sounds like the same old "stall process" that's been going on for over a year. If you look at my last post (#686), you'll see that I contacted Ford Customer Serv and they said they knew of nothing wrong with the Tremec 3650. However, I guess there is always hope... :rlaugh: :nonono:
 
Tremec 3650 trouble

[I thought I was the only one with this kind of trouble. Only a few hard launches. At 15000 miles one of the teflon bushings on the shift fork came loose and went through the gears, (that was fun, 70 mhp with cruse on), this destroyed sincros on 1st, 2nd, 3rd. ford rebuilt and grinding problem started. I could not shift into 1st at any speed, had to come to a complete stop. grinds 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd. Ford rebiult 2nd time. Now only grinds 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd when cold and kind of crunches into gear when warm. realy ticks me off. I had plans for some bolt ons and possible blower when warrenty runs out, now I dont know if the drive train is up to it. Ford also lied to me and said ford did not offer a replacement trans. I would love the part number(if anyone has it on thier work order) to give to my dealer. Im taking it back for the 3rd time on monday.

after 10 years of 4 door cars and mini vans, the kids are grown and got 2001 mineral grey GT for my mid life crisis and cant even enjoy it!

Unlike your experience, my dealership admits that there is a problem and they admit that there is a fix. It's just a matter of getting a TSB which is supposed to be coming out in a month. My service manager said I could get the new parts that are out now replaced, but if it don't fix the problem, they won't try to fix it again after the TSB is out. There may be additional parts at the time of the TSB. I'm just going to wait. It will be fixed before my warranty runs out. I will see to that. I have until May of 2005 or about 14,000 miles left on the warranty. I have time.

That doesn't make sense. There is a problem, they admit it is there. If they try and fix it now with the new parts and it doesn't work. They are done with trying and that's the end of it? But if you wait until there is a TSB, and they install the parts and it doesn't fix it, then they will try again to fix it? That is BS. I think they are afraid of a possible lemon law if they cannot fix it now.
