Read this whole thread. Wow. Have a 2004 GT and 2nd to 3rd was a real pain at the strip. Was the only issue with my tranny. Put on a Pro 5.0 and that didn't help. This weekend I had Amsoil put in my tranny and rear end. Only got one run in at the track due to rain, but no problems shifting. Hopefully this is the end of my problems.

Don't think the tranny's in the 2004's need to be upgraded. Anyone else have problems with the 2004 tranny?

i doubt the 04 trannys need upgrading but check it out. If the serial number of the tranny serial # starts with 3R3Z.

I got a question. I haven't had the TSB done on my '03 GT yet. But what do you think the chances are or me bringing in a set of ford motorsport 4.10 gears with me, and seeing if they'll install them while they're performing the TSB? (since they'll be breaking down the transmission anyway). Thoughts?

Haha, yup, i hate the 2-3 shift too because it feels so awkward thanks to the stock shifter. I really need a Steeda Tri-ax, but after i get the TSB done.

I usually ride around in 2nd gear in the 2000-3000 range. After 3000 i shift to 3rd. If i drop to 2000RPM in 3rd, i downshift to 2nd.

Expect to pay about 1000 for the rear end gear install. Ford isn't cheap when it comes to that stuff.

Get it done at another shop for $200

Ummm 4.10 go in the rear end not the transmission. Ford qouted me 800 for the gear install and they wouldn't be able to correct my speedo. I found a guy that will do them for 350 with new c-clips, pinion bearings and seals, and installing the speed cal.

Well, my TSB work has been/still is interesting.
Took it in last Wednesday - 9/1
Got a call Thursday - 9/2; dont have all the right tools, should have it done early next week.
Got another call, Tuesday 9/7 - Can't get 5th gear off the shart, plus 5th gear is all chewed up too! (Me and the shop guys are all thinking WTF?)

They decided to order me up a whole new tranny. I told them to take pictures of the old one and the worn out parts. Hopefully they come through with them.
Should have the car by the end of the week(I'm not crossing my fingers)

I just want my car back!!!!!!!

I had TSB 04-15-06 done by Lighthouse Ford in Falmouth Ma. They were not able to duplicate the symptoms but ordered the parts anyway since the TSB states it happens a lot under 40 degrees. They had my Stang for 2.5 days, and boy what a difference it makes. Nice and smooth going from 1-2 now, no more clunk.

Another positive TSB result

Just adding to the database. I had no problem requesting/receiving the TSB work from my dealer. I was pleased to find out that they had done 3-4 3650's before mine, so they were well practiced before they got to my 03 GT

No info to add as to how long it takes -- I was out of town for a week and only asked they have it finished by the time I got it back.

It hasn't been cold in the morning yet, but the shifting does seem better. I also may be imagining this, but it seems that I hear/feel the gears spin-up faster as the synchros engage -- like they're finally accelerating up to speed like they should have been doing in the first place.

My 04 tranny has become really notchy. Plus it get a grind/clunk sometimes when shifting to 3rd. I am trying to decide if I should talk to my dealer about this or not.

I brought my car in on 9/7 for the TSB. I was told it would take the whole day but I would get it back that night. I figured I wouldn't and I was right.

They told me late morning maybe early afternoon. Called at lunch, not ready tranny is still on the bench. If you don't hear from us by 4 give us a call.

At 3:00 I get a call . The dealership . They have a problem :damnit: . When putting the tranny back together the tech found another damaged gear . They have to order it , it will be in thursday morning. They promise it will be ready for tomorrow night.

Do I have to pay for it ?

Nope it will be covered .

What about a rental I don't have a car?

Umm we are all out right now, let me check again. Nope she is out.

Well I have no car and I start school tomorrow night and was told the change would only take a day. Now I have to figure out how to get home from school. I know it is not your fault and I want the car fixed right and not have to worry about the tranny anymore. But not having a car makes it very difficult for me.

We will try and get it done tomorrow, we are not expecting any more suprises and it should be ready. The tech went through the whole tranny and was not able to find anything else wrong. I will reserve a car for you if one becomes avaliable incase there are any other issues. We are very and thank you for you paitence.

Haven't called them yet (9/9) Plan on it shortly. I can't stand being without my baby, but she needs to be fixed to be right again. Sucks just waiting. I hope this will solve the issue, it seems like it has for others.

I'd put my stock shifter back on before going to the dealer for any tranny work.

I asked Lighthouse Ford about my Hurst shifter before I took it in and they said no problem not having the stock shifter.

The dealer had my stang for 9 days to fix the tsb. Since it's covered under warranty, they're not in any hurry to get it fixed and back to you. I also know that an outside trans shop did my tsb, so I think the dealer also told them to take their time since the dealer needed to get the paperwork to Ford to be reimbursed. But lucky for me, I did have a loaner.

Got my baby back last night . There is deff. a difference with the tranny. Feels tighter and cleaner . Really didn't get a chance to drive it until this morning. What a difference.

I don't have any whine when in neutral like I did before (think it was the TOB), and the shifts feel better.

Now to get a short throw and I will be happy.

I brought my car in on thursday and I will get it back today. They gave me a bit of a hard time with 'we can not duplicate the problem' but finally the service manager agreed to fix the tranny for me.

I wanted the dealership to swap the stock clutch for the centerforce dualfriction that I have in the trunk, but they refused to do it. I also put my SLP catted X-pipe in the back seat, but they wouldn't even slap that baby on for me.

I am happy that they finally fixed the tranny, but it suxx that they don't want to put on any aftermarket parts.

Oh well, I guess I have to take the stang over to the speed shop down the road and have them do the clutch & x-pipe. They are only charging $250 for it so it is not that bad.... I guess I would have ended up paying as much to the dealership for the swap with their ridicculous hourly rates....

Well, I dropped off my 03GT @ Crossroads Ford in Raleigh, NC this AM for the Tremec 3650 TSB #04-15-6 and they didn't flinch with my Tri-Ax and did not give me any hassle...I had 2 dealer visits about the problem believed me without me getting in anyones face...The Service Rep has a 04GT and has already blown 2nd gear and said the Tranny guys did a good job on his...

I am a tad nervous that things will be AOK..Seems dealers lately have fixed one thing and created others to get more warranty dollars for the dealership..

Other that the POS tranny, the car has been perfect...I love the Delta 50 Flowmasters, you can hear yourself in the car and it roars when you want it..

I have been putting up with the tranny clunks and grinds for 10 months now and hope this will take care of everything...I will let y'all know
