Oh the ugliness of it all....Paint prepping..

Just thought I'd keep you guys posted....

The color looks spot on to Rio so thats cool..I dont really want or need to get into the door jambs, thats why I stuck with the Red...

1105...believe me...the place is soaked....we got the place real clean...poly'd all the walls and ceiling, 2 fans going so it works good....the clear is what really clouds the place up...

Had one crease on the drivers side that took like 3 days to get looking mint..it ran from the door jamb to gas tank cover...that was a mofo to get looking good...no wonder my paint bud left before he got that side.... :bang:

Oh well...I'll get ready for another 12 hrs tommorrow.....I was supposed to bring it to the Ford garage that has like 3 booths...would have been able to nail it all in one shot....just gotta pick away at it this way.....

Those are the sail panels for the roof....look in my pic of the car primed...you'll see them missing(4 pcs of tape cover the bolt holes)..One goes from the front to about the rear qtr window, the other goes down to the rear qtr panel.....Its was easier to remove them than mask the rubber gasket along the edge of the roof...I dont want any tell tale paint signs...

Andy..

Damn that is alot of work, I can see why you dident make it to the dyno in concord today. Your car should look really good once its all done. I did get to meet Charlie ( onebad95 ) hes a really cool guy. I think hes going to buy the fox valve covers you sold me.

It seems like you are really taking your time and paying attention to detail :nice:. Good luck nailing the rest of it. When do you expect to be done? She should look sweet when it's done up with all the new stuff.

Joe

Travis....Charlies a hardcore stanger for sure....He just PM'd me on re-blasting those damn things again... :D

Joe....2wks it should be a done deal, back on the road...but we all know how that goes... :( ....Iv'e learned that prep/paint just cant be rushed...My sons a freak on having this thing mint, and he's the sprayer...so fars he's nailed everything....we both had a huge smile on how that first batch turned out...

Sure...you take off all the pcs too.... :D He basically told me to "get bent" when I said, lets just scuff it and shoot it....He said thats a "rookie job".. :D
Chit...spraying its all the fun...its the prep that blows.... :bang:

your lucky he knows what he is doing and is able to help you out with this...but you KNOW its going to be worth it a billion times over after getting that car back together, and rolling it out into the shining sun for the first time :nice:

Anthony

Anthony...Amen to that....Whole look is gonna be different, new nose, hood, spoiler and rims...It should look good for sure...no one around here has a set-up like this, so thats cool...I'll get plenty of stares for sure.... :D

More Red parts... :D Got a few hangers today for sure...the front bumper is a mofo to do...
Mirrors, gas door and tail lights left for small stuff..I'm doing the Saleen covers, door pockets and under the hood liner in Black as its fiberglass mesh...I'm thinking of doing the cowl, as seen from the drivers seat in Black to?? unsure on that one...

Since my old man is a Ford Tech, he knows quite a few guys down at the Ford bodyshop. One of the guys down the bodyshop owed him a whole bunch of favors, and since he needed his 62 Belair (yes I know, it's a Chevy) painted, they did it in a red laquer. Something like 12 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear...$$$. Sure does look sweet though.

Maybe if I ever figure out how to resize pictures to a post-able size, and find a place to host them, I'd throw some up...

Good luck with everything Andy. Sure looks like you spent plenty of cash for the plastic sheathing alone...

Joe

He sprayed one self etching primer coat in Gray...then one base to color it, tack cloth that..then 20 mins flash and another wet base coat....20 mins again, tack it again...then a wet coat of clear...20 mins then bail another coat of clear to...
I'm gonna wait til the entire car is assy'd then polish/buff it....I think it looks sweet as is..Junior says you aint seen nothing...it looks dull to me....???
Wetsanding with 2000 grit..I can hardly wait... :bang:

Joe...the poly is nothing...the temps rising so i need another hi-temp reducer...lets see...thats 16 per qt and i need 2...I'l drop another 100.00 in supplies tommorrow...Bet I'll hit damn near 1k in supplies alone....That includes the spray gun to...

All i started out wanting was the hood painted and blended into the fenders..that would've been 300.00 at a local shop.... :( My car fund is damn near tapped...
