5 quarts. 4 in the pan, 1 in the filter. I always try to pour at least 1/2 quart in the filter when I put a new one on.

With a warm up/cool down cycle after your first 5 qt. fill you may want to check your dipstick. They're notorious for being inaccurate - once you've got 5 qts. in it well circulated and cooled down, take a small file and mark a new "FULL" line if yours is off.

Very good advice. FWIW, mine read 'full' after 4.25 quarts were in the system (and had been cycled and allowed to drain, as M.Y. suggests).

Mine reads full (stock marks on stick) with only 4.5 qts. in it.

Thanks for telling me about that. My full mark is showing where the word full is written. if you look at your dipstick that is about 2 inches above the full line!. i thought i over filled but i knew there was no way because it was a 5 quart mobil1 bottle. however, before i changed the oil it was a tad below the full line, so it was obviously way low. thanks!
