I have a '98GT. Just wondering what kind of Oil and Oil Filters you guys use for your cars....

I use the Fram XG2 Oil Filter and it costs $14!!! Normal fram oil filters that i used to use were like $2.50. I try and use Mobil 1 oil..but its like $5 a quart. I just tried some new CAM2 10w-30 oil. Its not bad so far...not that i can really tell the difference between oil :rlaugh: Oh, and sometimes, maybe every 3rd or 4th oil change, i use Slick 50 that stuff is godly. I can feel a difference with that! :nice:

Just wondering what you guys use..

I will second the Fram filters sucking. If you have ever noticed the fact that they weigh about half of what a Purolator, Wix (Dana), or Mobil 1 filter does its because they use cheaper and less filtration parts on the inside.

Also, I have a Triumph Daytona so I spend some time on message boards for them. A couple guys used Frams on their Daytonas and lost the motors on them because the Fram actually grenaded while on the bike. The seam on the casing actually blew apart. :notnice:

I myself prefer the Wix (also sold under the Carquest name), Purolator, and Mobil1 filters. I am currently running 5w30 Mobil 1 oil.

the motorcraft is one of the best you can buy, and they are fairly inexpensive. they arent as good as a mobil 1 or a k&n oil filter, but they are really good. the motorcrafts are made by purolator IIRC. i used to use fram because of the cool grippy thing, but i got a snap-on oil filter wrench and that seems to work really well. the reason that you want to use the 5w-xx oils is that its thinner when cold, hence the 5 designation and therefore will shoot up to your cams quicker. granted that it is completely alright to use a 20w50 type on a 4v motor, just look at what the guys in australia are running on the mod motors down there that are made alongside our mod motors, ford uses 0w40 there a lot of times. i get my motorcraft filters are Wal-Mart, theyre like 2.97, a hell of a lot cheaper than even the crappy fram one. i switched my old beater 81 ltd 5.0 to mobil 1 after she had about 60k on the rebuilt motor and used a motorcraft filter and it feels like it runs a lot better.

why you guys running the 5 weight? wouldn't 10w-30 be better for the summer, cause its hotter.....

The number in front of the "w" pretty much designates its pour weight. Once the oil is heated to normal operating temperatures, then you go by the second number, which in this case is 30. 0w-30, 5w-30, and 10w30 are all pretty much the same weight at operating temperature. The 2001+ GT's are suppost be using 5w-20 but I feel thats a bit thin in summer driving. Im using 5w-20 Mobil 1 full synthetic right now with Mobil 1 oil filter. I will be going to Amsoil HP 5w-30 w/ Amsoil filters soon. Part of the reason is because Amsoil is shown to out perform most other oils on the market including Mobil 1 and the other reason is because Amsoil is pure USA oil. They dont get their oil from the middle-east.

I recommend, filters with synthetic filter medium.
There is only so much you can do with a piece
of paper.
...
look at, Pure One, Mobil 1, ( and other synthetic)

I just now looked at that review and I'm glad I'm using a Mobil 1 synthetic oil filter. I knew it was good because every time I check my oil I can't find a single trace of dirt or metal deposits. This could also be because I use rather big filter magnet and I keep my oil changed on time.

The advantage seems to be with synthetic fiber matrix is it allows for better flow over paper but the fine fibers still work to catch dirt better than ordinary paper.

If you're willing to spend $14.00 on an oil filter than go with the K&N. I do but only because of the nut at the end.

Otherwise save a few bucks and get a Purolator Pure One or Motorcraft or Mobil 1.

Stay away from Fram.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

I can get a K&N oil filter for 8.99 but the Mobil 1 costs 12.99

Must be different where you're located.

I didn't know what the Mobil 1 cost. I used to use the Pure One but started buying the K&N for the nut on the end. The K&Ns here (Checker Autoparts) are $13.99. That's the only place I can find them. Autozone is supposed to carry them but they never have them.

As far as I know, we don't have a Checker autoparts around here. We only have Autozone and Advanced auto. Advanced autoparts carries the K&N filters here but not the Mobil 1. Its the exact reverse at Autozone so go figure.
